RE: Savage Gulf Trip Report
yepper. i think you'll love it, ya nekkid monkey!

go to the store and if they don't have it, try on a reality and order THAT size (XS,S,M,L) in the forester.

they have the same suspension.

i would definately do it if ya need a bear cannister. i hate having stuff on the outside of my pack.

RE: Savage Gulf Trip Report
i just try to prevent brainage drainage!

the thing that makes the fit so interesting is that when you put one on, they feel like they are only 1/3 as wide as they are, but with the pivoting harness and the form-fitting waist belt, it really wraps around you quite well.

you can mix and match sizes on bag, harness and belt, too.

Oooooh, now you guys have got my new backpack lust raging. Just when I was trying to convince myself I might be able to get by with my old pack.

And can you believe it, my wife actually said I need to get rid of my old pack if I get a new one. NEED TO? I could, but I don't NEED to. Of course, she said the same thing when about the tandem canoe when we go solos, but she soon changed her mind.

Thanks for the trip report. Great to go along vicariously.

Good Lord! I hope my students don't find out I had two typos in that last post! English teachers are allowed to screw up in the woods, but not in their sentences.

Anyway, what's the record for cramming backpackers into a trail shelter in your parts?

Oh yeah for you Whisperlite users, if you prime your stove with denatured alcohol instead of the white gas, you'll not have that pain in neck black soot to put up with! I'll bestow that lil tidbit of genius to it's source, Jer Bear. I'll carry me a tiny bottle of alky just for that purpose from now on. Thanx Bear!

Here's some more pics. Some of them don't look good in the thumbnails but when you click to full size they come alive.

Regardless of the quality of the pics, you CANNOT appreciate the scenery unless you see it. So if you're one of the ones who've not done an ECT ... YA GOTTA GO!!!

RE: Savage Gulf Trip Report
Another thing the pics can't capture is the wind. I remember standing on an overlook on the last day of the hike, high above the gorge and looking at the river running far below at the bottom. The big wind was being pulled through the gorge by forces far larger than the gulf itself, larger than ourselves and our daily cares. The Fleetwood Mac song "hypnotized" comes to mind. You cannot capture the wind or the land on film, or the river or the earth, and must experience it.
