Hey GoJo
Hey man I guess you didn't see my post on the Presidents Day weekend so here's my question. I was planning on doing a trip that weekend also but hadn't made a decision as to where I would be going. I was wandering iffin you and Belle wouldn't mind some company? I have never hiked anywhere in GA and I could get my Dottie out for a weekend.

RE: Hey GoJo
My daddy is puter stupid and can not get on the log, so I will spond.

We will be in The Cohutty Wild Deer Nest Woods. It is in GA. Do you live by GA? If you do not live by GA, it will prolly be a far walk, so drive a truck. You will need a sleepy bag, a backpack, and a tent. Do you have those things? When you are walkin in the woods, you hafta stay on the dirt part -
DO NOT WALK ON THE LEAFS! Sometimes you can, tho. But mostly you will walk on the dirt. One day we will whack bushes to the Pantherkitty Creek Lookover Rocks Clift - then we will walk on the leafs. Sometimes at dark you mite get skeerd, but do not get skeerd cuz I will be there so you will be okay.

Know what? I been to Cohutty!
It was the first time I ever did go walkin in the woods and sleepin in the woods. It is a perty place with trees and BIG hills. And bears. Are you skeerd of bears? I am not skeerd of bears.

Know what? You will hafta walk in water and get yer feet wet. But that's okay cuz yer feet will dry off.

If you want to get out yer dottie, that will be okay... I gess. Jus do not come shakin it around me and keep it to yer self. (o;3

I gess we will go the nother way if y'all want to come with us. We will walk and walk and walk one day and make a tent. Then we will walk and walk and walk the nother day and make a tent. Then we will walk and walk to the truck. I will be a BIG sircle.

Mr. Rad,
You can come and we can shuffel yer car and you can walk out a leetle bit the nother way. You will be home when it is still not dark on Sunturday nite.

RE: Hey GoJo
The loop that I have in mind is prolly about 15 miles - eeeeee zzzzzz. Well, mebbe a couple miles will be a little difficult. Okay, dammit, the Panther Creek Trail is a real butt buster, but the reward (view from Panther Bluff) makes it all worthwhile.

I don't have a map with me, and I can't recall the names of the trails, but I'll try to give a description of the route.

We'll start at the Blah Blah gap trailhead. From there, the trail makes a steep ascent up the ridge to Yada Yada Point on Cohutta Mountain (2 mi.?). Past the point, the trail begins a gradual descent, following the ridge. This is an easy stretch of trail (4 mi.?). Then, the trail ties-in with Hickory Creek Trail. We'll make a hard left and follow this trail along the foot of the mountain. There will be a couple creek crossings on this trail, but no gettin' wet. We'll camp on this trail. The next morning's hike will be easy. The trail soon (3 mi.?) crosses the Conasuaga River - here we'll get wet. After crossing the Connie, Rad (and Spam?) will turn right on the Conasauga Trail to his car at BattaBing trailhead (3 mi.?). The rest will turn left. About a mile along the river, we'll pick up the Panther Creek Trail. This trail gains 2000 feet in about 2 miles as it passes Panther Falls (great viewpoint) enroute to Yada Yada Point. We'll camp at the foot of the trail - along the Connie - and save the tough stuff for the last (Monday) morning.

Just beyond the falls, we'll bushwhack along a ridge to Panther Bluff. The view is fantastic! It'll be a good spot for lunch. Upon leaving the bluff, we'll semi-bushwhack (undeveloped trail) to the main ridge and the trail leading back to the trailhead. We should reach the vehicles by mid-afternoon.

Cohutta Rocks!

RE: Hey GoJo
Shin deep. It's just the one crossing at the Connie.

Rad, you can hike in from the trailhead that I mentioned about leaving your car. You can take the Conasuaga tr. to Hickory Cr. tr. and meet us at the Saturday p.m. site. It would be about a 5 or 6 mile hike. You could hike back out the same way the next morning, accompanied by us for about 1/2 the distance. That would have you crossing the Connie twice, btw.

I meant to bring my map today, but DOH!
I'll be sure to pass on all the correct info neccessary to get y'all to the trailheads. There's a country store just outside of Chatsworth where maps are sold - you might wanna swing by there, rad.

Spam - you and I can meet in Blue Ridge, GA, on Saturday morning if ya wanna.

RE: Hey GoJo
I got confused.
I mistakenly thought that the aforementioned route was done in two nights - instead, I did that trip as a one-nighter.

I definitely wanna do two nights. I would also like to start at the same trailhead, but do a much longer loop. So... I got out the map last night and did some plottin'. It would be tricky to incorporate a one-niter (Rad) with a two'er. Not impossible, but tricky. I think the plannned route should skirt near trailheads from where Rad could both enter and exit without much backtracking. I'm thinking a figure-eight sorta route. Many of the trails in Cohutta come close to each other without connecting. Therefore, bushwhacking is always a viable option when considering a route.

So, who's in?

Hay Rad!
I'm still at my dad's place. The work took MUCH LONGER than any of us anticipated. It was pretty tough work that required MANY BEERS, so driving is prolly not a wise thing to do at this juncture.

I left yer # at home. I'll try 411...

I had Hotmail for awhile after losing the teaching related computer access perk, but it lapsed due to disuse (freakin' junk mail!).

Seems like I remember trying some changes at my profile that didn't take. I'll try again.

I live in my truck. I orbit among friends and family with tools and sleeping bag in tow - staying industrious fer sure, but not very still. Southeast ATL exurbs.

September? From Katahdin? That'll put you at GSMNP with 20 feet of snow on the ground. No? I hiked a section of the AT in NC just before T'giving a few years ago. We got 6-8" of snow one night/day.

Hey... maybe you could host numerous FYAO hikes along the way.

I'll shoot you an e...
