Matt...or anyone with HTML knowledge... “Help-- On the Trail Talk main page, I can't access any link higher than the scrolling marquee thread (I just saved $100). As it fades out of usage, I won't be able to access any links at all, and so far my only recourse is to keep it alive, and as long as it's on top I'm in business. Any ideas how to get it off my machine? I'm on a Mac. :^(” 2:51:00 PM 2/05/01 RE: Matt...or anyone with HTML knowledge... “Mac...that's the problem right, there, Tommy. Just kidding. I don't have any idea why you're having this problem.” 3:00:52 PM 2/05/01 RE: Matt...or anyone with HTML knowledge... “The thread title had some HTML in it, so I removed it. Hopefully that will fix your problem.” 3:06:35 PM 2/05/01 RE: Matt...or anyone with HTML knowledge... “It did, and thank you. Dang, man, you move quickly. How much do you lurk around here?” 3:26:08 PM 2/05/01 RE: Matt...or anyone with HTML knowledge... “Matt why don't you post on any thing other then web site issues? Tommy Mac?s SUCK!!!” 4:15:48 PM 2/05/01 RE: Matt...or anyone with HTML knowledge... “I think Matt trolls as Mutt. ;^)” 4:28:14 PM 2/05/01 RE: Matt...or anyone with HTML knowledge... “Ice--tell me something I don't know. It can be a real pain. Buuut, the mac's hooked up to the DSL line (1.5meg), has the G4 processor, and the 19 inch monitor. My PC on WIN98 only has a 56k dial up. The mac is much more fun!” 5:04:41 PM 2/05/01 RE: Matt...or anyone with HTML knowledge... “Add a NIC to the PC, get a LinkSys 4 port Etherfast Cable/DSL router and connect both at the same time. Acts as a router, hardware firewall and DHCP server. Your DSL provider and everyone from outside your private network only sees the IP address the router gets from your provider through DHCP. You can also use a static IP address for the router, if that is what your ISP has allowed. Most times, they do not want you to have a static IP address because then you could do web hosting and their bandwidth would be decreased by traffic coming from your sites by others who requested info on your website. Confused? Then just use your Mac.” 5:55:01 PM 2/05/01 RE: Matt...or anyone with HTML knowledge... “Yah skiracer.” 5:56:06 PM 2/05/01 RE: Matt...or anyone with HTML knowledge... “Ice and DM99, I realize playing with HTML is fun, but, c'mon. Matt would probably prefer that you try the tricks on your own computer or your own website and not here. One of these days, it could all come crashing down!!” 6:28:03 PM 2/05/01 RE: Matt...or anyone with HTML knowledge... “But if Matt didn't want us doing it that bad then all he would have to do is use: <%=URLENCODE(string) %> or something like that. I am not sure if that is what the function is but it is easy to fix if he really wants to. :)” 7:21:16 PM 2/05/01 RE: Matt...or anyone with HTML knowledge... “Wow, it doesn't let me put ASP script in. < % = URL ENCODE ( string ) % >” 7:26:14 PM 2/05/01 “4” 1:17:06 PM 2/05/02 “Hey Matt” 3:55:02 PM 1/17/05 “I can tell something is missing from your code, just give me a minute . . .” 7:11:18 PM 1/19/05 “some sites change the URL in the browser (not a re-direct.) you can view the actual addy by viewing the properties, but how do they do that to the browser? an example is www.flyanglersonline.com no matter where you go in the site, the browser always says the homepage.” 8:36:22 AM 4/10/06 “probably done with frames - main page stays up and the content in a frame on the page is what is changing” 8:39:44 AM 4/10/06 “The site is built in frames. Really bad idea for a whole lot of reasons.” 8:40:15 AM 4/10/06 “The question is, why do they do that? When you want to link to or email a specific part of the website, you can't! It just shows the homepage...dumb.” 8:42:20 AM 4/10/06 “oh, okay. thanks. now what lyra said- why? and besides being annoying, why would they want to?” 8:44:50 AM 4/10/06 “Lyra just pointed one of the many reasons frames suck. Your answer Lyra, is that they use frames because they don't have the experience to know better than to use frames. Most folks use frames so that when they change their global navigation, header or footer they don't have to go on every single page and make the same changes. On a big site that can be a real pain. A much better way to solve that problem is to use include files or a template system. By using includes/templates you gain the ability to edit one file and have that change populate across the entire site without the multitude of problems that frames create.” 8:47:30 AM 4/10/06 “Those numbnuts! :-)” 8:53:34 AM 4/10/06 “i'm gonna copy the last two posts and mail'em to them. ok, not really. thanks for the info!” 8:56:12 AM 4/10/06 “sometimes when you want to link to the content of a frame you can go to the link that brings up the frame and copy that link - try that copied link in the main navigation bar of the browser and see what it brings up - often it will be the stuff you are interested in without the fluff around it” 8:59:44 AM 4/10/06 “if you right click on the frame and then choose "properties", you can see the URL of the frame. You can highlight the URL, right click again and choose "copy". Now you can paste the URL in an email or in the address bar. That URL will bring up just that frame (usually).” 12:44:54 AM 4/11/06
