Avoid Ashcroft thread, mutt talking to self
Some people have nothing positive to contribute to the world only negativity. These are they that have nothing good to offer so they try to drag others down to where they are. If this is not you mutt say something uplifting. Something that makes bad men want to be good men and good men to be better. This is a challenge. Can you do it? Are you intelligent enough?

aw hell mtn gal, you shouldn't have made such a big deal of my ranting in the ashcroft thread. Sorry I laughed at your "non-religion religion" term, if that's what you're mad at. I pretty much agreed with some of what you posted, except for most of it. So you know, don't despair about the nature of humankind and all that. It's all good.

Here, something uplifting per your request:

"The Oxen Are Slow, But The Earth Is Patient."

Now tell me that doesn't pass your challenge!

In websters dictionary, religion is defined as "The service and worship of god or the supernatural." So I don't quite see how not practicing a religion is a religious belief. There is no worship or service to god involved. Your non-religion religion was an attempt to force a religion on people who really don't give a crap.

Also I believe that the freedom of religion phrase entails freedom from religion.

That?s it mutt? A quote of what someone else said, with not credit given. You made it clear you have nothing positive to offer. I happen to think that most churches (Christian or Not) teach imperfect ideas of man with a little of Gods word tossed in. That is why there are some many problems and easy to pick on frailties. Unlike mutt and what appears to be his believes, these churches try to be uplifting and improve mankind. If for no other reason this gives them value over those that make man their god and have no moral code. The Islamic conversions at the end of a sword, the Spanish inquisition, the dark ages, abortion clinic bombings were all evils done in the name of religion but not in accordance with the doctrines of those religions. Heck you could rob a bank and say that your pagan god told you to do it but that would not make it true or make all pagans bank robbers. You should judge a religion by the people in it that live by its teachings (these people are not in the news) not those that use the name and follow their own desires (like Jesse Jackson).

This is not for you mutt or 13. I know you will not accept this. Faith is something that can only be understood by living by it. Since you are not willing to try it you can never know. It is not something that can be argued. A person of faith arguing with you guys is like Stephen Hawking arguing with a 1st grader about how the stars got there. 13 you bet you have the right to be free from religion in your personal life but you do not have right to rid society from the influence of religion. To do that you would have to have no religious people and we have the right to believe. 13, man is your god and you worship yourself. Don?t bother trying to egg me on, I will not be back to read what you post.

Sorry to the rest of you, I?m done.

Mtn Gal, I was going to give up for now on the religious debate, but I should give credit where credit is due:

The quote came from "High Road To China." If it is not original to this movie, then I don't know who to credit.

I understand you don't want to argue religion with me. That's fine. I do think, though, you'll come back and read this thread at least one more time. So let me make a quick attempt respond to what you said. Two things:

"but you do not have right to rid society from the influence of religion."
So whose religion gets to influence society? If they don't all get a fair chance then I think we are getting an unwanted religon forced upon us. If someone uses his political power to pass laws that are base upon his religous beliefs, and our religious beliefs differ from this person, we are then forced with the problem of church vs. state. Which one do we obey?

Thank you Reptiles, good point.

Mtn Gal you spoke too quick, I have tried faith, even went to a christian high school.

What if throughout history you could see that a high number of pagans robbed banks...could there be a connection there?

I can live with out the right to rid the world of religion, if you can live without the right to spread your religion. Thats all
