Bascom Lodge, Mt Greylock MA is up for g rabs

“The Massachusetts Dept of Environmental Management is soliciting bids for the operation of Bascom Lodge this season (Memorial Day- Columbus Day). The lodge is at the top of Mt Greylock. Lots of good hiking in the area; all the AT thruhikers stop there; lots of dayhikers and casual visitors who drive to the summit; was built in the 30's by the CCC. They're looking for someone to run it basically like the AMC did, or better. Would include serving meals; selling snacks, small gear items, maps, etc; providing lodging. DEM also has interpreters/naturalists who put on programs up there and lead hikes, and AMC used to provide classes/hikes. Don't know if AMC would be willing to work with anyone new who's running the lodge. The way it works is you submit a bid to the state to pay them for the privilege of running it, and hope your bid is high enough to be accepted and low enough to make a profit.
