Does anyone no of trails near Tennessee?

“I was wondering if anyone knew of any trails around the Tn area. Somewhere around Cleveland would be the best. Me and my friend are wanting to go on about a 3 day and we don't know where to go.”

Yeah, I've been to Jacks River. Now that's a nice one to keep ya feet nice n wet. Big Frog has plenty of trails. Matter of fact, That whole area around the Occoee is full of trail. There's a Cherokee NF Ranger Station at Occoee Lake. They can hook ya up with all kinda maps and Info. I prefer the Cumberland Plateau myself. Ya got more and better Overlooks & water sheds. Where ya from? I've hiked half the forest over at Natchez Trace State Park. Not much to see. Only did it cause I'z board. Course we got Natchez Trace Parkway but it's a car path. It'll take ya through Missississippippi and into Louisana. Occasionally a bicycle or two will be on it. I don't recon they let ya hike it though. I think walkin it would suck.”

“Grunt--there are no national forest in TN. You are thinking of Natchez Trace State Park. However, I'm referring to the Natchez Trace National Scenic Trail, a trail from Natchez, MS (on the Mississippi River) to 450 miles to Nashville, TN.

I live in Jackson TN, I'm recent transplant from Virginia where I lived just off the AT. Don't ask why I decided to become a flatlander I know better now. But any way I am looking for anywhere close to hike. So where do you live?

“walkin.. Cherokee NF? Hmmm.. actually I never heard of that. And that is in SE Tennessee?

Grunt.. I'm in Oregon now. But I spent the first 24 years in Memphis (which is near Jackson). Some options for Jackson... drive up Hwy 45 to Land Between the Lakes.. a lot of Boy Scout Troops go up there. Its between Kentucky Lake and the Tennessee River... Lots of places around Mammoth Cave in Kentucky, but that's a long drive. I've done most of my exploring in the Ozarks in Arkansas. Shelby Forest State Park has a couple of trails, that's north of Memphis. There's also a wilderness area in Kentucky... though the name escapes me at the moment.”

“Speaking of Jackson.. I keep an eye on airlines tickets so I can get a good deal when I visit my folks who still live in Memphis.

Usually its cheaper to board the plane in Jackson, TN, fly to Memphis than it is to board in Memphis.”

“Just to let you guys know, Jack's River is closed for overnight camping, the rangers told me they aren't planning to open it up till after spring???

“there is a book put out bu university of tn publishing. i think its called "hiking trails of the cherokee national forrest". it will cover every trail in the north and south cnf. there is also an outfiterin cleveland i think its called extreme outdoors. i believe its on inman st. some of my favorite places to hike was just east of tellico plains, tn. joyce kilmner/citico creek wilderness and any trail off the cherohalla skyway. the cherohalla akyway begins in tellico plain and connects to robbins north carolina and is about an hour and a half drive from cleveland. that area should keep you busy for quite a while. i would offer to show you around but i moved form cleveland to colorado springs. bigger mountains here.
