PNW Snowshoe Invite “SARboy and Trailartist invite you PNW folks on an overnight excursion to Reflection and Louise Lakes within Mt. Rainier National Park. Meet at trailhead: 11:00 AM Saturday March 3rd. About the hike: It is 1.5 miles into Reflection Lakes. We will set up camp there and then day hike onto Louise Lake (1.5 miles). The total elevation gain for the entire trip is 560 ft. This is a snow camp trip, so come prepared, any questions about what you might need, we will try to answer as best as me can. PERMITS: This hike is with in the National Park. You will need a permit for park entrance, you can get that at the Road Ranger station at the entry of the park. These are 10.00 per vehicle and are good for 7 days. Backcountry permits are required for overnight trips. We can have up to 11 people on a permit and that is as many as we can have on this trip anyway, groups more than that can not go into the backcountry away from the Paradise area. We are more than willing to pick up the group overnight permit, it is free. It needs to be picked up at the Longmire Museum. The info we would need to do this is the list of names and the liscence plate numbers for all cars coming on the trip. So as we see who is interested we can talk further about that. But you will need to pick up your Entrence permit yourselves. There is a designated overnight parking area at this Trailhead...WE MUST park there so as not to be in the way of snowplows. Also the gate going out of the park closes around 5pm. Directions: Drive east of Tacoma on State route 7 and bear right onto State route 706 at the town of Elbe. Continue east through the Nisqually Entrance of the park, and proceed to the Narada Falls View Area OVERNIGHT parking lot. Well I think that covers it...First come first serve on the permit...solet me know if you can do this for sure! 2 spots all ready taken...SARBoy and Trailartist.” 1:47:57 PM 2/08/01 RE: PNW Snowshoe Invite “I'd love to go, but I need to check my schedule. What's the elevation of the area?” 12:33:50 PM 2/13/01 RE: PNW Snowshoe Invite “High point is 5100ft...” 2:07:27 PM 2/13/01 RE: PNW Snowshoe Invite “I promised my wife we'd do some more snowshoeing next month but I don't think she'd be up for an overnighter.” 2:10:55 PM 2/13/01 RE: PNW Snowshoe Invite “that's to bad...it is really pieceful out there at night...as long as you have the gear to stay warm...” 2:28:17 PM 2/13/01 RE: PNW Snowshoe Invite “what's the temp expected to get at night up there? around 20?” 2:33:32 PM 2/13/01 RE: PNW Snowshoe Invite “SARboy and trailartist. If I could make it I'd bring you some shrimp etoufe. Maybe one summer you two can host a PNW week long hike to show us some of your favorite hiking turf. If so, I want to sign up.” 3:26:39 PM 2/13/01 RE: PNW Snowshoe Invite “did anybody hear about Mt. Baker last weekend? I heard that it vented some steam, melted some snow and had a bit of a mud flow. This info comes from a guy at work, and I cannot verify if it is true. Anybody hear anything?” 3:44:04 PM 2/13/01 RE: PNW Snowshoe Invite “I haven't heard about Baker.. one would think that would make the big news.. solitary hiker.. I'm planning two PNW hikes in August. One is about 4-5 days the other about 3.” 3:46:02 PM 2/13/01 RE: PNW Snowshoe Invite “temps really depend on if it stays clear or clouds over...a 20 degree bag with a fleece liner and a good pad underneath has done just fine at close to zero for me...if you have sleeping bags tha tzip together then that is even better...the warmer of the two will help keep the other one toasty. Yes heard about Mt. Baker...only the steam though. Trailartist (not SARBoy)” 8:47:16 PM 2/13/01 RE: PNW Snowshoe Invite “Here is another possiblity...after talking to another backpacking buddy, we are now considering moving this trip to the following weekend...10th and 11th of March. Does this date work for any of you? Javaboy? Winddragon?” 11:02:00 PM 2/13/01 RE: PNW Snowshoe Invite “?it is really pieceful out there at night? SARboy what do you mean by that? Is their something Freudian in your spelling of ?pieceful??” 10:16:17 AM 2/14/01 RE: PNW Snowshoe Invite “TeHe... I would love to give my husband the credit for that spelling error...but , alas, it was me...still had not switched over to me on the computer. tehe...there could be something to that slip in the spelling.... **blush**” 1:27:25 PM 2/14/01 RE: PNW Snowshoe Invite “The weekend after would be better for me, I think. I put in for leave, but being the new guy it didn't sounds like I would get it. I am still trying.” 1:34:10 PM 2/14/01 RE: PNW Snowshoe Invite “Well consider it done... it is now the weekend of the 10th and 11th... had some takers via e-mail...hope you can make it Javaboy...” 10:28:54 PM 2/14/01 RE: PNW Snowshoe Invite “I was going to send a general e-mail aout to those of you that showed some interest...however I do not have Java's e-mail address... mind sending it to me? markskirschner@home.com” 2:34:10 PM 2/26/01 RE: PNW Snowshoe Invite “its very tempting.. but honestly I probably can't commit to the hike. Perhaps next winter I'll be more prepared for winter camping.” 12:17:48 PM 2/27/01 RE: PNW Snowshoe Invite “SARBoy and Trailartist, how did it go? Trip report, please!” 10:46:00 AM 3/12/01 RE: PNW Snowshoe Invite “Yes yes... Please do report... I need to know what I missed! :(” 2:12:46 AM 3/13/01
