PCT “Doing section hikes on the PCT in June and July of 2001. Three, one week sections in N. California and Southern half of Oregon as fire season allows me off work. Willing to go solo or partners. I am 36/m/m. that hikes slowly to smell the roses.” 3:06:01 PM 2/08/01 RE: PCT “Lobo, if'n ya wanna meet some o' the boys and giirls in here, how 'bout joining us for the Llama-Rama hike, end of July thru 8/10? Check the thread here...” 7:16:55 PM 2/08/01 RE: PCT “Lobo, What Norcal sections are you gonna take on?” 2:08:03 AM 2/09/01 RE: PCT “Kinda depends on the fire season. Late July and August I'm ususally pretty busy. Siskiyous will be my first choice.” 12:29:35 PM 2/10/01 RE: PCT “Hi Lobo I too live in So. Oregon and always interested in a hike. I'm located up towards Roseburg.” 8:14:17 PM 2/10/01 RE: PCT “And here I thought all he was trying to do was get lucky.” 9:22:03 PM 2/11/01 RE: PCT “Lobo, the PCT doesn't go through the Siskiyous, but they are very nice. In Northern Ca, after crossing Hwy 5 the PCT heads through Castle Crags, the Eddys, Trinity Alps, Russian W'nss and the Marbles before entering Oregon. All are great choices for section hiking. Old Timer, I hiked this weekend with Wrongway Charlie, he said if you're still interested in doing the Siskiyous over Memorial Day weekend that he'd be more than happy to give you a ride down.” 12:05:26 AM 2/12/01 RE: PCT “Hay Dunk, doesen't the PCT cross I-5 in the Siskiyous?” 12:14:31 AM 2/12/01 RE: PCT “Yup, north of the Marbles it's the Siskiyous, where the PCT heads mostly east and crosses I-5 near Pilot Rock.” 12:23:56 AM 2/12/01 RE: PCT “Not Siskiyou Wilderness.” 11:32:36 AM 2/12/01 RE: PCT “I'ma new to the area and have hiked little of the pct, I thought that the portion I hiked was in the Siskiyous. I try and hike the Pilot Rock area often although the snow is a bit deep as we speak, it still makes for a good tromp in the woods.” 12:24:09 PM 2/12/01 RE: PCT “PCT does run through the Siskyous Mountain Range, but not the wilderness area. Afterall, it's difficult to go from CA to OR without crossing over these mountains as they, generally, seem to separate the two states.” 1:35:32 PM 2/12/01 RE: PCT “True, sorry if I lead some one astray, I meant the mountains and didn't mean to confuse anyone.” 1:39:06 PM 2/12/01 RE: PCT “Sorry Dunk, I didn't think of the wilderness area just the mountains. Its kind of hard to think of it in conjuction with the wilderness. The Siskiyous are over by I-5, Ashland and such.” 7:11:01 PM 2/12/01 RE: PCT “not to far away old timer mayhaps we'll meet some day.” 7:27:22 PM 2/12/01 RE: PCT “I'm with you Dunk. It's the wilderness areas that matter. Too much of the rest is clearcuts.” 9:26:25 PM 2/12/01 RE: PCT “I think it starts rainin' once you cross into Oregon, so I just don't go past the border.” 9:29:18 PM 2/12/01 RE: PCT “Another one of those missconceptions, try eastern Oregon. It don't rain much, but it do get cold and the wind blows.” 10:45:19 PM 2/12/01 RE: PCT “I have had some of my best hikes near clear cuts. In my younger years I even made some clear cuts myself. those area's are still beautiful after ten years of course. I have my best wildlife viewing in or around clear cuts, they should be kept small and away from rivers though. I love to watch the elk in a ten year old clear cut, they eat good and look like they are having the time of their lives. By the way, wildlife viewing is my most favorite past time. *WARNING, NOT TO BE USED AS A POLITICAL BATTLE ENGAGEMENT. Probably should have kept my mouth shut which I am know for keeping quiet until recently. Sorry to offend anyone. Have a nice evening and see you all in a couple of day's, Lost Lobos” 12:22:39 AM 2/13/01 RE: PCT “Yea.. Clearcuts offer the best views. Heck, after hiking up this butte all day wanting to get a birds eye view of the forest, the last thing I need is a damn tree in my face. (editor's note.. this was a sarcastic comment)” 12:01:28 PM 2/13/01 RE: PCT “Old pictures show that we now have more trees that we did 150 years ago. Who knows, maybe clear cuts are good. Lobo, when you get around to the Castle Crags to the klamath R. let me know.” 12:45:55 PM 2/14/01 RE: PCT “even if that were true.. only old trees clean and filter our air. If we wipe out a lot of old, big trees and replace them with young, small trees.. yea, we'd have more trees but loose the benefits of the old trees.” 1:57:15 PM 2/14/01 RE: PCT “even if that were true.. only old trees clean and filter our air. If we wipe out a lot of old, big trees and replace them with young, small trees.. yea, we'd have more trees but loose the benefits of the old trees.” 1:57:18 PM 2/14/01 RE: PCT “Yep, you can't make new old trees.” 2:08:31 PM 2/14/01 RE: PCT “Yep, you can't make new old trees. Bares repeating...” 2:08:57 PM 2/14/01 RE: PCT “I'll let you know, trint. I also think clear cuts are ugly for a few years, I'm not a saddist.” 10:09:57 PM 2/14/01 RE: PCT “Its the new trees that lock up the CO2, so we need more new ones 'couse we got one hell of a lot of CO2 from those autos we drive and the power generators we need, mostly for Calif. Think of it as save the world cut a tree, plant a new one.” 10:48:54 PM 2/14/01
