I don't know how much more. I just remember feeling a little cramped in the 04. I feel fine in the 05.

one half inch lower than the 04 xterra hardly matters.

true, but when you come up to that half burried rock that you wish was just a half inch shorter.....

One problem I have noticed with the Xterra. At highway speeds the wind noise is a lot louder than it was with my truck. The roof rack seems to be the culprit.

i agree it's a slight bit louder, but i've been in trucks/suv's that were a lot worse. try taking the bolted down rack out and see if that makes any difference.

speaking of winds... today the wind was extreme and the nissan barely moved, whereas my tiny echo was knocked all over the place in that kind of condition.

I took my Xterra into the woods last weekend. It handled like a goat. Up the mountain, down the mountain. I just turn up the stereo on the highway.

No silly, it only has 500 miles on it. I did take a hard look at Rocky Crossing. The river was still a little to high.

a guy i was talking to about the xterra took his under water up to his hood and said it was really solid.

i got about 1100 miles on mine so far.

Be careful what people say. I was looking at 150 yards of water that was at least above the bottom of the doors and flowing pretty good. Dumping the nose in a mud hole is not the same as crossing a river.

i doubt i'd be having my xterra swimming any time soon. probably not at all, actually.

The wind noise from the roof rack is a common complaint with this suv. Three of my friends with them have said the same thing. They also have a hard time talking on the cell phone when at high speeds...they can't hear the other person on the phone because of the wind noise.

I have roof rails on my suv and I only put the kayak rack on in the summer. My rack makes noise too but I just put up with it in the summer. PPPpfffttttt !

i don't think it's that loud...

My last vehicle was an SUV so I don't even notice any noise.

I took the basket off so I could move my J racks further apart. The idea that things could be dried in it is a joke. I bought the screwdriver to fit the basket screws, then read the owners manual where it tells where the screwdrivers are that come with the truck. stupid me.

Well, if it makes ya'll feel any better, my BRAND NEW 2005 Durango 4x4 has a terrible wind whistle around the drivers window. I've got to figure that one out before I go crazy. The other day I was cruising down the highway and could hardly hear what my wife was saying.

The salesmen told me people put stuff in the basket to dry out.
Did you get the day pack with yours? LOL...
too heavy too actually use though.

I see the 2005 has a covered basket, now called a gear box.

I need to buy some gear to put in my gear basket. The cover does not lock, so I won't be putting anything valuable in there. I was thinking of putting a tarp up there. A tarp is always handy.

The cover came out with the '05. I am not too impressed with it. To put my canoe on the rack I have to rig a spacer on the cross members to clear the cheap ABS cover.

I think I will put my pack rod and a small tackle box up on top with a tarp. Never know when you might run across some decent fishing.

i don't plan on doing any of the outrageous trails. i'd like to watch and then just test out my 4wd a little bit on some minor trails.

I'm taking my wife's Xterra on a horrendous journey into NYC's - JFK airport for her trip to Hawaii today. With many of our roads & bridges washed out....who knows. Normally about 2 1/2 - 3+ hrs. I wanted to take my hyundai but never got around to cleaning out all my junk. I have fast food bags everywhere, my grandsons seat in the back, sleeping bags & kerosene cans in the trunk. Neat I'm not.

Roof protectors ? got a pic or a link ?
BTW - I installed an K&N Air intake system and a Borla Exhaust on my 2003 and now get
5 miles more per gallon highway, not to mention, it sound really cool too.
