Only insofar as a guy having a midlife crisis is in the same demographic as a 23-year-old woman...

The roof protectors are just some thick rubber strips that have double sided tape on them. If you want to strap an ice chest or cargo box on top of the roof between the roof racks they protect the paint.

They were 16 bucks.

I think I'm trying to kill my Xterra...

So far it's suffered a broken shock, a shattered rear window, popped tire, scratches all over, a dent or two (or three) and the roof rack just about got ripped off going thru the parking garage...
Not to mention the constant kid invasions and camping messes...
The poor dear thing is only 22,000 miles old.

I agree Stovie...I bought it to use!
I never trade in anyway, and usually keep my buggies for 10 years...

I wonder what the dealer people think when I bring it in for service - especially this time when it comes in with no rear window, LOL...

twiggy, you would fit right in with the deer hunters down here. LOL

The busted rear window covered with plastic would make you 'one of the boys'. LOL

Yes, except theirs were caused by "accidental discharge of a firearm", or "intentional contact with baseball bat swung by their date's irate husband or boyfriend".

ayuh - not only plastic, but held on with camo duct tape.

I don't have a gun rack yet...

I have 2 Xterra's but I used my jeep wrangler for the woods. I have a 00 Xterra, that I haul building supplies, plow snow & pull a utility trailer around with. Usually picking up appliances & running my heavy-duty cub cadet tractor over to my daughter’s house to mow her lawn. It has 97,000 miles on it. Maybe the AC is going (hopefully recharged) & a crunched in door. The door came from a kid running a red light going to the Lake George hot air balloon festival. He realized he missed his turn & backed thru the red light after running it the first time. He crunched in my wife's door. The door & window still work, so I didn't bother to fix it. I have a mig welder, so if it ever bothers me, I'll cut out the affected parts or weld in new ones. My partner just wants to fiberglass it. His insurance co offered us 4k & we took it. Took the 4k & bought a new Xterra for my wife & I took the old one. Dealer down in Jersey (4 hour ride) offered it to us for 2k less than we could get here. Also offered 2500 rebate & we got 1% financing. They did us right.

My '95 jeep sits in the back yard. My wife says I have separation anxieties with it. Put 150,000 mi on it in the woods. Put a wooden roof rack on it when it was paid off & doubled its versatility. Carried come-a-longs, farm jacks, chains, cables, and canoes, bridging materials, building supplies. Has a sideband radio & 8,000 lb winch. Locked myself out of it on Lows Lake mid week in the Adirondacks. Pretty far walk to the main road & town. Busted off the antennae & opened her up. Had a nice canoe ride around the lake, camped on an island & hiked the hills. Got out a week before the "Adirondack bloodsucking vultures" descended.

Not sure I'd like the Xterra for the woods. Dirt roads maybe. Hummers didn't fair too well in the woods either. (too big)

I hear what your saying...I like the clearance of the Xterra better for the woods, but my smaller SUV was easier to negotiate - didn't need so much turnin' around space, etc...

Turnaround?????
I had a Subaru so far buried in the woods, I didn't know how I was gonna get it out. Couldn't get a tow truck in there & didn't know what I'd say to my insurance co. Thought I'd have to leave it. Took me a long time with bridges (to cross sreambeds & washouts), iron bars (to move boulders) chainsaw (for downed trees) & my trusty 4 ton come-a-long and separate 40 foot of steel cable (broke that cable last year). Me & my brother-in-law got out about 2 or 3am. Don't know how. We took it down a (closed) ski slope once too. Snowmobilers weren't too happy but it was the only way out. Did I mention that I got white hair at a young age?

Xterras don't belong on pavement
I was out on a backroad fall foliage tour in SW utah last year and we hit an uphill section of mud that was deeper than our running boards with boulders sticking out of it. I didn't think we had a chance in hell of getting out of there. But the X with stock tires plowed right through it.

Roads usually have a decent base to grab.

Used mine tonight. Seems those 2 cans of 134a refrigerant recharged my AC pretty good. It's been a week or so & it didn't leak out.

I'm building (another) fieldstone shed for my tractor & running out of stone. My wife gets cranky when I dig up too much of the property. We have stone walls on the property lines but it's kind of joint ownership.

Went over to bother my daughter & grandsons. The 4 yr old broke both his arms this summer (just got the 2nd cast off) & started day camp on Monday. (God help them)

My son-in-law wanted me to put a couple pieces of hardwood down on his walk in closet. Brought me a tape measure via the 4yr old & he took a chunk out of my finger before I knew it. Seems it had a piece out of it.

But anyway, they're building on some land about a block away from me & said they're gonna bury their stone walls (smart move with my grandson) and I could take it all. Backed onto the property in 4wd & loaded the Xterra up. Be back for more. Of course it was getting dark so I pulled the stones off the wall with a 6' - 3 tined rake. Ya just never know. I don't like the sound of rattles & copperheads are just plain nasty when it's hot.

Oy, I Love X's!
I spent the weekend with my man's Xterra group-it was their annual summer campout. He has had his X since 2000-and it has seen a lot of offroading.
I think there was around 30 X's at the camp-a bunch of us went up some "nice" "Jeep" trails-and got behind a Jeep that was driving like an old lady going to church ;-) Yeah, with a good driver they can go anywhere you want!
When we got to the alpine lake we were headed to, we outnumbered the Jeeps by 4 to 1..lol! One of the Jeep guys came up, and said "Do I need to go to the back?" ;-)

My man's truck has a sticker of "Chicks Dig Body Damage". And I know I do :-D Even if I do have to climb up into it....

Grrrrr!

just as I suspected, my skid plate disappeared somewhere along the way, in some garage...

I'm sitting here ranting about it, and my office mate starts going on about starting fires with you car...like if I take my Xterra in tall grass with no switchplate, I could start a grass fire.

It's a guy, and I swear he believes it. He says that's what someone at some garage told him, LOL...well, he's from away, so I'm betting he was getting a big time leg pullin'..and if he talked to them like he talks to people around here then he deserves it!

The only thing that's underneath to prevent fires is the sheet metal shield around the catalytic converter and that's not a skid plate.
