SUMMER EMPLOYMENT
I'm looking for summer employment in the western state. My choices in order are
1. Montana (preferrably Glacier National Park)
2. Wyoming
3. Colorado
I guess Washington would work for a last resort. Does anyone know of anywhere that offers seasonal employment in these areas? I've tried coolworks.com, but I know there's got to be more than that. Where else could I find employers? Has anyone ever done this? Input??? Thanks everyone!

RE: SUMMER EMPLOYMENT
Maybe look into summer camps. I know there are web sites out there listing different camps looking for help. You could work in any of those areas I'm sure. I think many camps are desperate for help too.

Check this out. Look under job seekers. "View jobs" lets you pick what you are looking for and where. You could also post a resume.

check out some of these:

http://www.fs.fed.us/r9/aviation/index.shtml

Many of the Nat. Parks out west are hiring workers for concesseniare jobs.

And Uncle Sam is in a hiring Blitz to find wildland fire fighters. I think they are banking on a similiar summer like we just had.

What are you looking to do?

RE: SUMMER EMPLOYMENT
Couldn?t help notice how you picked states all around Idaho but left it out. I don?t mind. It would be helpful to know what type of work you want or at least what skills you have. No body can help much without some information. As for the summer camp thing, Oldie is from the central states. The eastern style summer camps are pretty rare in the Rockies. I know of none in Idaho aside from those run by the BSA.

Fire fighter for any number of state governments or the forest service. Hard work sometimes you make money sometimes you don't. Lots of Hot shots make enough to coast through the winters but the positions are hard to get.

You state needleboot that you are looking for employment, but it sounds as though you want no parts of work. I assume therefore that you are a teenager, the only folks I know that think they can have a job, collect pay and not put forth any effort.
Good luck. If you find such a dream gig, be sure to let us all know where it is.

RE: SUMMER EMPLOYMENT
I just got my summer job offered to me today, I am so happy. Over the summer I work at a Boy Scout camp in northerner NJ. The AT runs right threw the camp. The camp at one point was called ?camp crystal lake?. Just about every one in America knows the name of the movie that was filmed there, and so many kids dress up as the main character every year for all hollows eve (for you dumb as$ out there thats Halloween). I don?t know if I will be able to post on TT for the summer now.

RE: SUMMER EMPLOYMENT
Not.....it was aka Camp Nobebosco. It was on Friday the 13th not Halloween and the AT does not go right through the middle of it. Now Yards Creek Scout Reservation (George Washington Council) in Blairstown is a lot closer to the AT, or perhaps Camp Mohican..Where the At does go through.

RE: SUMMER EMPLOYMENT
I said ?so many kids dress up as the main character every year for all hollows eve? I never said it was on Halloween, and not Friday the 13th. And unless we are counting inches I think the AT runs pretty dam close to the camp (http://albums.photopoint.com/j/View?u=1389936&a=10464422&p=39927606&Sequence=0&res=high )and if you know so much about the camp can you tell me what Nobebosco stands for? In that map you can see the AT in green and my camp in blue. There are trails running from the camp up in to the AT from the power lines path. I did not highlight every thing in blue that I think may be camp property because I really don?t know but I did highlight the space that is in use often. I think that the council does own more.

WD, I have never seen the exact lay out of all the camp properties I only know what we use during the summer, and I may be wrong the AT may not pass through the camp but if you took a look at the link you would see that it is close.

RE: SUMMER EMPLOYMENT
Yes Ice Tea your camp is close, but like Dude said, and you will see the AT is on the top of the ridge line and your camp is on the base of the Mt. Now on the map that is only an inch but in reality when you get there it will be a 45 minute 1500 ft walk to the trail. All in all still close and a great place to be for the summer, I was just kidding you before you took it well. The "young Grasshopper" thing comes from a TV show called Kung fu with David Carodine which Premiering in February 1972 as Kung Fu: The Way of the Tiger, The Sign of the Dragon where he played Kwai Chang Caine a Shaolin priest . His mentor a blind Priest played by co-star Keye Luke, uses two catchphrases, "Snatch the pebble from my hand" and "Grasshopper." The latter was uttered on the show as a nickname for the young Caine. Now, ya wanna look good with your new scouts this summer.....take them on a 2-3 day hike down to the Delaware Water Gap. Hike to just past the fire tower south of Blairstown- Millbrook road and there are several awesome places to camp on the east side of the ridge right on the trail. Really Beautiful views in the morning. Then you can either hike all the way into the gap or camp on the south side of Sunfish pond the next day, then hike down to the gap which is about 5 miles. Heck I even know people that will shuttle you back up to camp when you are done if need be.

It was Crystal Lake in the movie. Not Silver. If you've seen any of the Friday the 13th movies more than once, you have a SERIOUS problem. I've seen em all but ONLY once.

RE: SUMMER EMPLOYMENT
Just ask any local what they call it. I realize thats what the camp is called and thats the name they used in the movie, however that isn't the lakes orginal name. In Blairstown they refer to it as Silver lake.

RE: SUMMER EMPLOYMENT
In response to your earlier question Ice: I was born in Somerville, Raised in Mansfield (Hackettstown) and when I was 18 I moved to Pa just over the border off exit 4 (rt80 west). That is where I have been ever since. If you'd like me to open my dossier
further perhaps we could do it over a good long day of hiking! All this TT stuff is bs unless it is substantiated with a good hike with new friends every now and then anyways.
