Awesome. It will be a miracle if they are successful. BTW - The Shoemakers are some of my scientific heros. There was a neat documentary about them on TV. He was almost an astronaut who got to go to the moon.

Bud, think thats something??? Put people on board, blast 'em off into space, land them on a uninhabitable place, have them blast off from there, reunite with an orbitting craft, return to our atmosphere, enter (and not get burned to a cinder), splash down in the ocean, get plucked out of the water and live to tell about it!
Now thats a f'in eagle landing!

More like "crash landed," since the craft had no landing gear. I hope it survives the impact, but it doesn't matter -- this was still a hugely successful mission.

flyguy -- those were the days. I was 5 when Neil Armstrong walked on the moon, and I will never forget that day for as long as I live.

Wow! This is just too much! I grew up on science fiction books and movies, and the space program, and this is just too cool. I remember being taken out to sit in the hallway in elementary school to watch a TV broadcast of the first Mercury launch, repeated for the others. Landing on asteroids? Just too cool.

About 10,000 Juneau residents lost power Sunday after a bald eagle lugging a deer head crashed into an Alaska Electric Light & Power transmission system in Lemon Creek.

"You have to live in Alaska to have this kind of outage scenario," said Gayle Wood, an AEL&P spokeswoman. "This is the story of the overly ambitious eagle who evidently found a deer head in the landfill."

The meal was apparently too heavy. The eagle failed to clear transmission lines as it flew from the landfill toward the Lemon Creek Operation Center, she said. When a repair crew arrived, they found the eagle carcass with the deer head nearby.
[...]
"This would have been a major score," Wood said. "That eagle would have been the king eagle of the Lemon Creek group."

Did Vile find out the if the Eagle was Jewish? Then he would really have something for the BUND meetings.
