Zealand Falls to the Kanc. X-C ski “Pedxng or any other NH hikers. Do you have any information on the condition of the Thoreua Falls/Shoal Pond area? From the Mt. Wash website it sounds as though it is packed into the Zealand Falls hut. I assume the same for the Wilderness trail off the Kanc. It is the area between that I am wondering about. Also, Franconia, Lincoln Brook and Owl's head areas. Will be camping/skiing in the Pemigewasset for a couple of days next week.” 9:18:34 AM 2/14/01 RE: Zealand Falls to the Kanc. X-C ski “Sorry Lee, I don't have that info. You might call the AMC tho'.” 4:05:21 PM 2/14/01 RE: Zealand Falls to the Kanc. X-C ski “Whether it's broken out or not (and I suspect it's mostly broken out) the skiing will be, um, difficult. Right now the snowpack is set up like concrete. Where it isn't it's breakable crust. Based on my experience last weekend I'd go with snowshoes.” 4:28:00 PM 2/14/01 RE: Zealand Falls to the Kanc. X-C ski “Tele -- Precisely the reason for my question. I was in Evans notch on snowshoes this past weekend. An inch of crust and 2 1/2 feet or more of powder underneath. ONce the trail had been broken out by snowshoes it would have been passable by skiers. I am fairly certain that either end of my proposed trek will have seen enough traffic to be broken out . . . as I will be on skis, it is the middle section with which I am concerned.” 8:08:41 AM 2/15/01
