Smokies Mid-March
Anyone interested? I'm free and clear from March 12-18th. I am planning on heading for the Smokies maybe. A question there. Does anyone know if the Eagle Creek Trail is usually passable this time of year? The guide book says 16 creek crossings. How deep and how wide? Everyones welcome to come along and I'm flexible on the route and location in the park. Anyone doing anything anywhere else during this time frame? I'm near Richmond, VA and not against a little travelin to the trail.
I'll be away from my computer for this weekend but will check in Sunday night.

RE: Smokies Mid-March
baume,I dont know if Bill and I will be available to go on a trip then or not but we could try.we did Eagle creek a few years back. It really startes at the Fontana dam then you hike out back and forth up and down around bends that skirt the lake. It is a beautiful hike just watch for snakes big time there. we saw the biggest timber rattler up there.then when you get to the first campsite there are tons of copperheads all along the beautiful inviting beach.in the rocks. the river crossings were not bad when we were there (mid summer) fairly low (mid thigh) and only a few feet across but in wet weather I could see great difficuly in a few. bugs are bad if it is warm. This is a beautiful place though.
