Greetings
Just wanted to introduce myself I am new here. although I have been lurking for a while. I'm from Central California and my stomping grounds are in Mineral King, The Golden Trout Wilderness
and Sequioa/Kings National Parks... pretty much all right here in my backyard. I have been backpacking since I was 17 and I'm on the other side of 40 these days ;)
I am planning to do most of the John Muir Trail ( Tuolumne to Whitney Portal ) in mid July. Already have a reserved permit...
can't wait!

Welcome WW... I loved the JMT when I first hiked the first half, going the same route. I'd love to do it again - all of it - although I'm heading out on Mel's Lama Rama end of July thru 8/10.

I'd love to reminisce about that hike with you sometime... I'm here in Napa, so we're probably close by. See ya!

More Greetings to all, I'm also new here, but have been lurking awhile. I'm 1/2 of the "other two" Mel mentions as being interested in the upcoming llama rama...the other 1/2 is my son. We originally were going to do the JMT this year, but our hiking partners didn't come thru. Hope to meet a bunch of you in person!

Hello to Wind Walker, Wanderer and Backfoot from the North Woods of Wisconsin, wedged hard up under the greatest Great Lake, where you can can portage a canoe over the watershed divide between the Gulf of Mexico and the North Atlantic. Our regionall walks include the Ice Age Trail, Porcupine Mountains Wilderness, and Isle Royale NP. Stop up sometime, meet a bear, catch Lyme Disease.

RE: Greetings
Trinity Trekker...I agree, your part of the state is the real No CA,(but I'm not complaining about my part of paradise either). I'm planning a trip somewhere up to your area this summer, I'm billing it as a "Saaquatch Hunting Trip" for my scouts...any suggestions on where to go? Probably a long weekend, 2 nights / 3 days.

RE: Greetings
Trinity, so Coffee Creek is where you live, I've been up and down that road countless times. I was in the area last Sept hiking up Swift to Fosters and camped the night before at Preacher Meadow.

Lobo, you know there are other options you don't HAVE to be a Giants and Raiders fan.

RE: Greetings
backfoot, just remember, if you keep your mouth open while you hike in Northern Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, you'll do your part to reduce the skeeter and black fly population the rest of us live with. And keep your ankles and legs bare so you can take some ticks home as souvenirs (don't forget to hit a deer with your car as you exit, it's all part of the outdoor experience).

We just tell all these tales to scare away the sissy folk. All in all, just come before the first big hatch in May - I love the woods after the snow pack exits, the trilliums pop up, but the temps haven't reached hatch level - or wait until July for the decline to set in. Hope for an early frost if you really can't stand bugs at any level. First color change here usually shows up in August!

There's also the Niners and A's. Personally I'm a Giants, niners, Warriors and Sharks fan, but if I were you, I would stay loyal to the teams you've always pulled for, not because the teams here aren't worth pullin' for I just don't believe in changing loyalties. While living in Michigan and Dallas, Texas I remained loyal to my teams, it wasn't always easy, actually it never was easy being a Niner fan in Dallas but I wouldn't have it any other way.

I am a die hard Cleveland Indians, Portland Trailblazers and Denver broncos fan but the closest teams are not who I would choose. Besides Alex and JR. left the mariners, the blazers whine about everything and the Seahawks well enough about this. I am getting more into college and highschool sports anyhow.
