Thought you might enjoy some photos of the Coast in the Olympic National Park.

These are from a trip some time back:

Beauty! Thanks for sharing.

That starfish on the beach looks like it is still talking animatedly to the two birds who passed by. (check it out!)

...or is it just running to catch up?

Maybe it's an oceanic archetypal White Rabbit: "Dear me, I'm late! The Majesty Her Queen will have my head!"

Thanks for the photos. Spent a month on the Peninsula back in the 70's and decided that it was my favorite place I'd ever been. Went back for another month in the early 90's and decided that it still was. If I could only take one more long hike in my life, it would be a traverse of the entire Olympic Peninsula. Awesome place. Lucky you to live so close.

Aw, c'mon. And that other one, after 'Camp': some big ol' SuperTroll (or is that One Fingered Jack?) is lying underwater - all that is apparent is, he's giving us the bird...he should be over on the Antisocial Thread.

(I've had to reboot my computer thrice now..rrr)

Well, I was thinking more on the lines of something else but hey, One Fingered Jack works too. LOL

Great pictures China. Jeez, you make me long for the NW coast. I lived in SW Oregon my freshman year of high school. We lived in Myrtle Point - about 40 minutes from Coos Bay and 20 minutes From Bandon and the coast. Much of the coast looked like your pictures. I've gotta get back there one of these days. Thanks for sharing.

Oldie,
If you lived in Myrtle Point, then you know where I live, Myrtle Creek.

RE: Olympic Coast Photos
Unfortunately, no. I was about 14 when I lived there. I didn't drive, and wasn't there long enough (9 months) to get to know much of the rest of the state besides the close vicinity to Myrtle Point. I fell in love with the country around there though and totally plan on moving back to the region some time.

ChinaChas, nic pics, on what part of the beach did you take them. Lookingglass is guessing Shi Shi Beach.

Please tell Mrs. Chas hello for me!

RE: Olympic Coast Photos
I have very fond memories of climbing on the rocks, and staring into the tide pools at Horseshoe bay (at that's what we called it) a little ways south of Bandon. Probably one of my more sentimental locales, though there were lots of great places out there.

I was into mountain biking back then (maybe again someday). We did this ride - the depths of hell ride (so called for this long down hill followed by an awfully long climb). Anyway, to get to the part where we descended we had to bike these long logging roads (the only thing logging is good for) up to a peak, at one point it was probably a 45 degree angle rise or more. Once at the top the view was magnificent. We were probably over 20 miles inland, but I swear I could still see the Pacific. There were tiny patches of snow in places of shade (in March) and off to the east I could see the snow covered cascades. After the long climb we just stood there looking for a good five minutes or more. It was a view I will never forget. Then we climbed onto our bikes and raced down the side of the mountain at 40 miles per - what a rush.

Ok, it's been decided. After I get my teaching license I'm moving back West and becoming a biker bum... and a hiking bum... and a ski bum... and a... ummm bum. Thanks again, China, for this thread.

Nice stuff Chas. So is this what you were doing while being jetlagged?? (Good way to pass the time, I'd say) Very nice shot of yo and Mrs. Chas. Oh, and are those colors real? So it was raining? Very surrealistic (from somone who's never been there) :-)
BUT... I do have my own version of the phallic rock, but mine's in Arches N'tl Park shot...mooooohahahaha!!

I saw some of the beach out there last August before Henry and I did our six day trek in Olympic Park.....its wicked pretty out there!

I've got a picture of "Big Schlong Rock", an appendage of "Big Schloss" in the George Washington Natl Forest, Va/WVa line.

RE: Olympic Coast Photos
Lizs, the surreal colors are a result of my unhealthy scanner. It was overcast but fairly bright. The scanner forced everything pretty dark so I had to lighten it up on the computer. Made things look a bit funky. The actual prints look a lot different. That and I could use a neutral density gradient filter. Or whatever you call it that darkens the sky but keeps the lower half lighter.

LH The section of beach is south of Third Beach toward Toleak Point. Sherry says hey.

That's some Wild lookin land scape there. Over here, our beaches just got sand. I bet that makes for one hell of a playground!

RE: Olympic Coast Photos
I remember one beach on the coast. There was a big rock stickin' up out of the sand. When the tide was out, a cave was exposed that you could walk through. There were tide pools within the cafe with fish, starfish, anemonies, etc. Very cool.
