Kelty Trekker
I just bought a Kelty Trekker Pack ( external frame) and I cannot figure out how the "hold open bar" is supposed to be attached. The instructions tell you what to do but there is a pocket in the way. I took the damn bar out after too many minutes of frustration. Can anyone help me out? Is this hold open bar a luxery item or a necessity?

RE: Kelty Trekker
You have to undo the top 2 clevis pins on each side. (holds the pack onto the frame) Then fish the bar through the sleeve at the inside top of the pack (on the side away from the frame). Then slip the ends of the bar through 2 little slits inside the bag near the second from the top pins (on the side near the frame). Then put the clevis pins back in, going thru the holes in the bar. Make sense? If not e-mail me and I'll try again.

I have had a trekker forever and love it. I got mine down under 5 lbs by cutting a lot of garbage off. I know externals are old technology but I love mine.

PA,

What C U is the Trekker?
I love my Klondike but would like a slightly bigger external.

Did you figure out how to work the open bar?

Medium (model 3900st) = 3900 cu.in., 5 lbs. 7 oz.

Large (model 4300) = 4300 cu.in., 5 lbs. 10 oz.

I bought a women's Tioga from Campmor. 4000 Cu. in. Haven't really used it, but I'm taking it to the Grand Canyon. I think I'm gonna like it a lot.

REI-Outlet has the Kelty Trekker for under $95.00 Is that where you bought it?
I was looking at the "Just Added" page there earlier and happened to see it.
Looks like a nice pack!

Yhanks for all the info I am still working on all the adjustments and have e-mailed the Kelty Hotline for help..and yes I bought it for the sales price.just have a hard time with the instructions. I think they were written for someone who they assume knows what they are talking about.

It's getting close to GC time, CindyLu. Are your palms starting to get sweaty? Is your heart racing, yet? Do you find yourself packing and repacking your pack? Have you started weighing it yet? Have you taken things out only to change your mind and pack them again? Are you getting excited or what?!

Can't wait for the trip report and pictures!
