Anyone from Alaska?
Just wondering if there is any backpackers from Alaska. I live on an island in Southeast Alaska, but will soon be moving up to Anchorage. Can't wait to go backpacking up there.

Wow. An island in SE Alaska. Must be beautiful and pristine. Are you moving by choice?

I am originally from Wasilla but now live in Hawaii (for the last 4 years.) Welcome. Why are you moving out of Alaska? Anchorage is not considered part of Alaska, you know.

RE: Anyone from Alaska?
I spent a couple of years in Juneau one summer. Really about 4 months. I understand why you would move. Juneau is a Island too, ocean on one side, ice on the other. Beautiful place, wet, wet and wet. At 50 degrees F I say women laying out in bikinis. In Southeast Alaska they do not sun tan, they rust. You do not have dogs knocking over your garbage cans, the bears do it. SE AK is a lot different than the Los Anchorage area. So much to do and see anywhere in Alaska. Have fun. I hope to return some day as a tourist, not working 70 to 90 hours a week

RE: Anyone from Alaska?
Hi Alaskan Packer, I live in WA state, and often think about traveling to Alaska. Is there any place in particular that would be the best to visit, like Misty Fjord or the Kenai Peninsula etc.

I suppose you will know more about the Kenai Peninsula when you move to Anchorage, lol.

I haven't been to either one yet, but Misty Fjord sounds like a cool place. I'm just waiting for Denali NP.

RE: Anyone from Alaska?
Thanks anyway Alaskan. We have ferries in WA that take people up to Alaska.

RE: Anyone from Alaska?
Spent some of last summer in the bush up by Kotzebue and have made alot of friends up there in AK. There should be plenty to in and around "Los Anchorage". The town is not as bad as it sounds but will most likely be a huge change for you. Hope you will have a set of wheels at your expense. You will have to do some driving to get to some of the nicer places. Denali N.P. will be really crowded so be prepared for the people and the lines.

I would suggest doing a little extra research on the places that might interest you or that are close. There is alot to see up there so take you time.

School will keep me pretty busy, so I'll probably spend lots of time at the nearby Chugach State Park. It's only about three miles from my house. Then in the summer, and possible over Christmas break, I'm going into Denali N.P. backcountry.
