Plan, coordinate, execute, and edit annual Gear Guide and Apparel Guide. Coordinate equipment testing for field tests, reviews, Outfitting, and special gear-related stories. Assign/project edit/write field tests, reviews, Outfitting, and other gear-related stories. Provide editorial content for backpacker.com and editorial oversight for gearfinder.com. Plan, coordinate, and participate in annual Be A Gear Tester Contest. Maintain equipment catalog files and product review index. Attend two annual trade shows and other industry events as necessary. Coordinate editorial coverage of trade shows. Serve as editorial liaison between the magazine and industry representatives. Handle reader inquiries about gear. Develop new writers for equipment reviews. Test gear. Participate in at least four field tests, and take at least six additional trips to test gear. Requirements: A strong passion for backpacking, along with extensive experience in the outdoors. Experience testing outdoor gear and/or intimate knowledge of different types of backpacking equipment. Strong writing and editing skills, preferably with a history of published writing in outdoor media.
