RE: roll call
The Army's local Recruiters came by my house while I was in Highschool. My knee was in a brace from a surgery so they didn't want much to do with me. Oh well, funny thing is I keep getting all their mail telling me to join "so I can see the world". The Navy, Marines too. Is it really as good as those ads say it is? Seems like a lot of hype to me. No offence.

RE: roll call
ThinAir,

I think it is like many other jobs, it has it's good times and it's bad times. It really is what you make of it.

I look at the places I've visited, and some of the things I've done. Not many jobs I could do those in. Just realize that when you first start, you won't be jetting around the world, getting great pay, doing interesting stuff all the time. There are the days of total boredom, crappy !$%& jobs, bad weather, thankless details, etc.

But I wouldn't change a thing. I've learned leadership, then got good enough that the Army let me teach it for a few years. Got very proficient at many outdoor skills while getting paid. Maintained very good physical shape compared to lots of American males my age. I taught literaly hundreds of people, mostly at one on one level, teaching can be one of the most rewarding jobs you'll ever do. I've seen foreign coutries, even got to live in one a couple of years. I've been part of American history. I (even little old me) was part of a team that helped guide the new training philosophy in an organization the size of the Army for the next decade. I've got to do all this stuff, and more. I still got about 4 1/2 (maybe a little more if I want) years left to do more!

Sure I could have had a better paying job, one that was more comfortable (ever sit on an ambush in 20 degree weather with a lot of wet gear?), one that kept me in a place long enough to buy a house, a safer job. The military isn't for everyone, and even for those that do join, a carreer isn't for everyone.

I didn't mean to say that much.
