Rambling wrecked
Hope no one was headed for a hiking vacation in Great Britain. According to the news this morning, the rambling trails have been closed to reduce exposure to hoof&mouth disease in the countryside. For a country with a lot of ramblers/walkers/hikers, this is a major recreational disaster. Can you imagine if the BLM or Forest Service ever locked down because of a livestock disease outbreak? Or have they anywhere out west?

That wouldn't stop me! Here in Cali, the closest thing we have is the new monument. But at least you can still visit.

RE: Rambling wrecked
I always thought the British common law concept of open access for walking trails was pretty cool. Steps to help you get over fences, no need to walk around private land. But sharing the good stuff means sharing the bad, too, obviously, on a crowded little island. I suppose it's easier to head off hikers in England than it would be on many of our public lands.

Apparently, H&M can be transmitted by clothing in a breeze. Gotta be a nightmare. Let's wish them all happy trails in the nearest possible future.
