Gear Question, hammock “Does anyone know where to get light weight hammock that is big enough for two adults? (.)(.) | ) . ( ( Y ) 4:27:01 PM 2/23/01 RE: Gear Question, hammock “Hennessey sells a two person hammock shelter system. The Safari delux weighs 3.4 pounds, haz a 12'x6' canopy, has a max weight rating of 300 pounds, and costs $139. If you just want a two person hammock to lounge in, I think Campmor has a net hammock. I only weigh 155, if you weigh 145 or less, we gotta get one ;^)” 4:37:43 PM 2/23/01 RE: Gear Question, hammock “Sir, Thanks Sarg, Sir Hubby is 6 foot 5 inches, 240 lbs hunk a hunk a burnin? love. With me that is over the 300. I?ll check out campmor.” 4:47:10 PM 2/23/01 RE: Gear Question, hammock “Well then, don't tell your husband what I said 8^O” 4:50:06 PM 2/23/01 RE: Gear Question, hammock “mtn gal, if you're looking for just a hammock (rather than a hammock tent) and want a serious piece of gear, you might consider a Pro Pod. I've never seen one, but I've heard they're great. Big enough for two, very lightweight. You'd have to have it mailed from the UK, though. http://www.bush5.co.uk/ Sgt Rock, you ever seen these???” 4:57:07 PM 2/23/01 RE: Gear Question, hammock “Looks nice, but I can't find a load limit listed. Triple stiched and heavy duty stiched is a good sign. I hate converting grams to ounces, but it looks like the two person weighs about 43oz. You would have to add a fly and bug screen if you wanted a total shelter. I bet you could rig a bug screen for about 4 ounces with a ridge line (like a hennessey) and use a Campmor sil-tarp for a fly.” 5:10:11 PM 2/23/01 RE: Gear Question, hammock “Thanks Mutt Those cloth hammocks look pretty simple. I think I will get out the sewing machine and stitch up my own. There is a place in Boise that sells appropriate fabrics.” 5:19:30 PM 2/23/01 RE: Gear Question, hammock “The hammock is for fair weather sleeping and play. We haul a tent too. Last year the skiiders and horse files were gone by mid August in the mountains.” 5:33:10 PM 2/23/01 RE: Gear Question, hammock “Forgot to mention that the people making the Pods are supposed to be very responsive to questions and are supposedly quite friendly & helpful. That's all secondhand info, though. I might try contacting them about a load limit. I'm curious now. Mtn Gal, you might also look at a treeboat, if you're going to sew a hammock. you should note it's design. It's much more stable than a conventional hammock, which would be good for, ah, "play". http://store.wtsherrill.com/pgi-Product%20Spec?10154 The treeboat with the tent option (only available from the manufacturer) is probably the best hammock tent out there (although heavy).” 5:40:24 PM 2/23/01
