last night I went to see Bowling for Soup with American HiFi at the Lincoln Theater in Raleigh, NC. What a show. BFS was a lot of fun and can really rock the place when they want to. American HairFi (as the lead singer for BFS jokingly called them) pumped out some really good energy. Even had the mosh pit all worked up. We got there too late to catch Riddlin Kids but were told they put on a good show as well.

Blue Merle Was fantastic. The lead singer was so freakin excited to be playing in front of the home crowd I thought he was gonna wet himself. It was refreshing to see some genuine enthusiasm onstage. It put me in a great mood for the night. Afterwards I got killed at work. I made great $$$, but I'm WRECKED!!! Gonna sleep soon.

Last week was a good week for live music in Nashville. Wednesday I saw Social Distortion. They played a fantastic 90 minute set with lots of favorites as well as a cover of The Stones - Under My Thumb
and Johnny Cash's Ring of Fire.

Sunday We saw a couple of new bands Low Millions and Blue Merle. I've been really diggin on Blue Merle for a few weeks now. They're like a cross between Coldplay (new albulm out in may, prolly) and Nickel Creek.
They rocked with their version of So Lonely by the Police.
Man it's good to live in Music City, USA.

treebait, make sure and not miss the SCOTS concert. They are always awesome! Mary totally cracks me up with her bottle of hairspray. The other guys are just as goofy, too.

Sounds like y'all get out to some good concerts. I just went to Gavin DeGraw on Friday -- great! I mean, what other white boy can cover the song Sexual Healing? My St Patty's concert is gonna be the Reverend Horton Heat. I see them every time they come to town.

I went and saw good ole Jack Pearson last Saturday. Man, I think he is prolly one of the best guitar players I've ever heard live.

I have been jones'n for some good live music but have been so busy I havent gotten a chance to get out much. Yes Currahee, it is good to live in Music City USA. Did you hear that Riverstages is no more this year?

Drowning Pool
A TR from last night

The music was supposed to start at 6pm, so I was surprised when I arrived at 5:45 and there was music playing - turns out 10 years got on the bill somehow, I wasn't aware and I had never heard of them. But, I was quite impressed by them, I enjoyed the music - I might have to look more into them. Opiate for the masses came up next, to me they seemed like a joke - the music was good as long as I closed my eyes, the lead singer with his bleached blond hair put on a strip show - starting with full clothing and ending with just a pair of briefs... Anyway, after they were over, I picked up 2 picks that I found on the floor - the cheap bastards don't even have their logo on the picks.

Drykill logic took the stage, and they rocked - Finally a mosh pit got goin, even though the floor was quite sparse.

Drowning Pool was awesome, the place wasn't very full, but that was fine - didn't make it difficult at all to make it to the front row and shake hands with Jason, lead singer. The show rocked, and I walked out of there with a poster signed by Mike Luce, the drummer and a guitar pick.

So I just won tickets to Judas Priest and Queensryche, definately not a concert I would normally buy tickets for... but it should be cool, time to download some music to see what I'm getting myself into.

So I'm debating whether or not I should buy System of a Down tickets...

About the only thing I ever spend money on is concert tickets (and backpacking gear) but I normally don't shell out $55 for a single ticket, decisions decisions...

On a similar note I'm going to Adema on Sunday night for $5, I love Adema! I can't wait - Trapt is on the 21, and Static-X is on the 23, and NIN is on Oct 11. SOAD would be on Sept 23 - I just need to justify spending that much on tickets, that's two days worth of pay...

If anybody cares - I found my justification for buying System of a Down tickets... But it kind of sucks, lol. I just found out I have to work over the week I planned on going to Trapt and Static-x, so I sold those tickets and justified going to SOAD.

I'm real dissappointed that I can't make those shows... but I love my job more than I love concerts - otherwise I would have never made the sacrifice.

Baseball is boring, but I guess seing it live would be better than watching it on TV... still $40 would be much better spent on concert tickets.

My rule for concert is to never speand more than 30 a ticket. I love music, all kinds of music. I just do not perfer to spend that kind of money anymore.

The most I have ever spent was something like $75 per ticket to see bruce springsteen. The only reason I purchaced these was a birthday gift for the wife.

One of my favorite bands, Wilco, usually charges anywhere from 20 to 30 bucks.

I pay whatever it takes to sit wherever I want at concerts.

Creating a ticket budget limits the enjoyment, imo.
