Update on Fletch's Ass Problems
Went to a new doc yesterday after work. *Pinworm*

What the hell? What the hell's a pinworm and how does one manage to get it to burrow in one's !$%& while hanging from a portaledge? Anyway, I am on anti-fungal meds (oral this time--that's a switch) and am sending my pants out to the cleaners.

Thanks for all the great advice and the ass-pounding from whats-his-nuts.

How 'bout a REAL string topic around here????

Hey Fletch, don't pin worms enter your system from your hands and they come out your ass? They itch real bad and you scratch and reinfect your hands again? I've heard of them before especially with kids playing in sand boxes.

RE: Update on Fletch's Ass Problems
Pinworms is an inaccurate name for the infection since it's actually caused by the small rounworm Enterobius vericularis which grows & reproduces in the intestines.

It's most common in temperate climates & areas of poor hygeine. Eggs are usually transferred from the area around the anus to clothes, toys or bedding which then transfer via hands to the mouth(now you know why mom always told you not to put your fingers in your mouth!)and are swallowed. They CAN also be inhaled from the air & then swallowed.

It takes pinworms @ 2-6 weeks to mature and start laying eggs. The substance the eggs are coated with & the movement of the adult pinworm moving about laying eggs is what causes the itching.

If you have a family, get them all on medication because the infection can be spread from one member of the family to another. If you have pets, get them checked for worms too. Even with treatment, re-infection can occur because live eggs are shed in the feces for up to a week after treatment and can survive for up to 3 weeks at normal room temperature. Clothing, toys & bedding should be washed frequently to try & eliminate any eggs.

Hope this answers your questions. Be happy, it could be a tapeworm... --------

RE: Update on Fletch's Ass Problems
I once had to have a check up down there because of a similar reason. Talk about embarrasing...the doc would put one hand on my shoulder and use a tool on me...which sucked bigtime.

Come to think of it...he had both hands on my shoulder!

RE: Update on Fletch's Ass Problems
Hey,,,,what did i tell ya?.....

all the things mtn girl said about enterobius is quite true,
you will never see the actual worm...they come down to the anus at night to lay their eggs...that is why they ask you to do a "scotch tape prep" just before you get up out of bed
Your family should be treated too, anyone sharing your bed especially and your sandbox.....
HOWEVER.....
.....Cats and dogs do not get enterobius vermicularis....it is species specific to humans/ primates...
A lot of human MDs blame your dogs and cats....but that is not correct. Only from other humans....

hey gojo....u make fun of this ole parasite guru~!....heh

RE: Update on Fletch's Ass Problems
Om, my mistake! I was under the impression that it was transmittable between animals & humans. I stand corrected!

BTW... it's medic_girl, not mtn girl! :-)

RE: Update on Fletch's Ass Problems
Medic girl........my apologies....i got mixed up on the name....
it's ok on the pinworm from pets misconception....
we get all kinds of folks bring their dogs in to be checked for pinworm because the kids get it and the human docs advise them to do so.....
humans can get creeping eruption (hookworm) from their dogs and cats (walking barefoot in a yard that has hookworm eggs or larvae from pets) , or tapeworms from ingesting fleas or proglottids from the pets, and toxoplasmosis from cat litter boxes...........but not pinworms.....
so it is still good advice to have your pets checked for parasites anyway...

RE: Update on Fletch's Ass Problems
and not to beat a dead horse here, but to relate this to backpacking...heh....
we all take a lot of care filtering water for bacteria and parasites....
it is a good reminder to always wash your hands before you prepare food or eat......ya just never know what microscopic critters are lurking in that trail dirt under your fingernails!....ok , thats all

RE: Update on Fletch's Ass Problems
S'okay, all's forgiven! :o) You're right about the hand washing. How many of us know people who take great care in filtering their drinking water & then eat with unwashed hands? I have to admit, I've done it once or twice before!

RE: Update on Fletch's Ass Problems
I don't understand why you would be given fungal treatment for pinworm? But it's easily cured, I confess I had it as a child myself. It's not the worst parasite a person can get.
