Actually form letters can be effective. Unfortunately, some congresspersons (via their staffers) actually separate their mail into pro and con piles on any particular issue that gets lots of mail, then actually weigh the two piles. I'm not kidding about this. They do not read it all, so impassioned personal pleas often get the same attention that a form letter gets. Volume can speak volumes to a rep or senator.

Sad but true. Everything revolves around money. Money causes distruction and healing. What power Bill Gates must have.

RE: Rise up and fight back
I'm taking a collection to help both sides of this fight. I will send it all to the group that sends the most. IE if the pro people send me the most money, I'll give it all to help the pro side. If no winner can be determined, the money will be donated to the by Matt a new bike fund.

White House Loosens Clean Air Rules

What drives me nuts is that when Whitman was our Governor, she led the campaign to force Midwestern coal plants to clean up. Their emissions drift right over here and make it impossible for us to meet standards. Now that she got the national post she was so horny for, she turned her back on us.

Thanks for the link violin.

I can tell you right now that Bush has lost my vote of confidence. I hope everyone else will wake up before the next election.

the regulations were designed to force power plants to install expensive equipment if they upgraded their plants to produce more power. the effect of this over-regulation was to cause companies to delay upgrading their power plants. what bush did was to make it easier for smaller plants to upgrade and be able to produce more power for our growing population(mostly because of illegal immigration). people want power but they want it cheap and clean. moderation is the key to all things.

your not gonna die, it's ok.

See… your wrong there strat, we all die eventually.

People are dying from pollution generated by power plants. There are other health effects that lead to lost productivity and increased health care costs. We in NJ have had to create a very expensive system to try to reign in automotive exhaust when much of our air problem comes from power plants and industrial facilities west of us. Even if we outlawed all cars, we wouldn’t be able to comply. Some infrastructure improvements have been scuttled because of this drifting pollution.

The goal of the regulations was to force the oldest, dirtiest plants out of service. This change assures that they’ll be around for a long time. There are real health and economic costs from air pollution. Power plants are the single largest cause. Our health and economy have taken a backseat to the interests of Bush’s contributors and buddies. If he continues to roll back environmental protections that most Americans favor, he won’t see a second term.
