smell ya later!
Nuts to this.

I'm going hiking amongst the redwoods. Oldie got me inspired with his questions about John Muir.

See you in a few days, folks! I'll try to include pictures.

Redwoods are awesome.

Some years ago I spent about a week hiking and bushwacking in the redwoods along the Eel River in Humboldt County. Several times I would camp inside a burned out (but living) redwood, which makes an excellent dry, protected shelter.

One day these two Canadians came by when I had a fire going inside and the smoke probably drew them to my tree. I told them how I was sleeping in the redwood and was just roaming around the woods and then I heard one of the guys whisper to the other "This guy's crazy." Guess I musta appeared crazy to them and maybe I talked kinda crazy cause it had been several days since I had seen another human and had kinda forgot how people talked and was wearing these rumpled dirty clothes and probably had soot rubbed on my face but I didn't care, it was a good time that rainy December by the Eel River.

steve hiker, you probably fit in well with some of the more colorful locals. I remember one time fishin for Steelhead on the Eel near Ave of the Giants when our raft started deflating. We pulled it over to the side to begin patch work, when some ole coot yelled "Kill the sonsa bitches!" All of a sudden two large, loud dogs came rushing down towards us with the crusty ole man in tow. You shoulda seen our faces, no where to escape to and a backwoods bafoon and his dogs comin' after us. Well the dogs and the ole fart ended up being more bark then bite, but the smelly old man wouldn't shut up. It was about 7am and the guy already had a health drunk goin and smelled and talked like it too. We did a half assed patch job and shoved off as quick as possible.

My old roomate was from Arcata so we used to visit the area often and had many cautious encounters with the local backcountry folk. If you think hillbillies only live in the Southeast you should visit some of the more remote sections of California.

AmyG, Humboldt County is directly north of Mendocino County on the Northern California Coast. #1 cash crop is high grade sticky ganja....mmmmmmm!!!

Isn't Weed on I-5 in Siskiyou county? or is there more than one Weed?

Best be careful tramping around Humboldt county. Those pot farmers have some nasty booby traps (so I'm told).

BaSO4, you're gonna get folks back on the gun thread: "What's the best personal protection to carry when hiking in pot country, flack jacket for defense or M-16 for offense?"

Yup.. Weed is just off of I5 near Mt Shasta. I stopped in there for gas when I went to the redwoods last. Saw this baseball cap that said "WEED" on the front of it in all green.. very tempting to buy that one! :-)

I just saw on the news that Mendocino residents can grow enough pot for personal consumption with no medical reason necessary.

LH, it's still against Federal Law. The townfolks can pass anything they want but it doesn't make it legal.

Speaking of towns:
Tok, Alaska

Dunk, a federal judge in the Bay Area has ruled that Santa Cruz's ordinance making it legal to smoke pot for medicinal purposes is legal, despite the feds' complaints.

I thought intercourse was in PA. AmyG, help me out here. Isn't it near you somewhere? West of the Philadelphia area maybe? Does Alabama have intercourse also?
I don't think Virginia does.
