well, it seems a new feature on here that launches new web browsers has hosed my system causing a reboot and its once again messing up my computer. So I won't be around much until Matt takes out that stupid java script.

RE: best searches
I've just picked up the same thing - new windows keep popping up with all kinds of different websites - hope the x-rated don't show up - they monitor for them here at work.

Matt - please help us

RE: best searches
I'm getting policy violation reports on the windows that pop up, so it looks like there might be x-rated sites. (Of course, the filtering software is about as reliable as any other filtering software, so that may not mean anything.)

RE: best searches
Is the makings of the NWO? What are you folk s gripping about? Are you talking about the little windows that pop up here and there? Never seen any for the nasty stuff mostly ad's for technology things

My gripe is with my server I think. I can make it into every other freakin site but this one on many ocassions is difficult to make it into. I'll get javascript errors or it will send me to Media3.com site or something like that. Makes it really difficult when one is "jones" for a little TT.

Anybody know how to get in touch w/their server and complain when things aren't happening the way they should. The bytes coming and going from the machine slow to a stand still quite often.

Umm, I've had no problems at all. What are you using, Netscape?

BTW, what's wrong with cookies?

RE: best searches
What?s wrong with cookies? Depends. Nothing or something. I prefer to keep them turned off unless I specifically want them on for a given site. Here?s why they?re good:
*They allow websites to keep track of if a user has entered a valid password.
*They allow the concept of a shopping cart.
*They allow custom display settings to be remembered.
Here?s why they?re bad: Certain huge marketing companies (doubleclick.net is probably the largest; Matt uses flycast.com) advertise on many many different websites. So when you drop into a website that doubleclick.net (or another advertiser) uses, they know all the other sites where they advertise that you?ve visited. So what, you may ask. I liken it to this -- suppose you go to the mall. At the door is a representative of doubleclick.net (who doesn?t know your name or address but remembers you each time you visit.) Do you really want this person following you around and writing down every store you visit, updating the list every time you return to the mall? Maybe it would help the mall provide you with a better shopping experience, but I?d rather not just the same.

Out of fairness, please know that I?ve been accused of excessive paranoia more than once. I still don?t want that person following me around the mall or the Internet or anywhere else. That's why I keep the cookies off.

Hmm.. well, it didn't happen this time. Looking back at when I complained -- 11:37 AM -- which was just before our lil Earthquake, I'm gonna blame it on computer glitches caused by the disruption of Earth's crust and the electronagnetic anomolies associated with it.
