RE: Tree people
Don't theses protesters have a job that they have to go to? Or are they paid by the DNP?

We will persevere! My tree brothers are slow to anger but indomitable once roused.

RE: Tree people
Good for them, there are better forms of logging than that. Hopefully their actions will make a difference.

RE: Tree people
I?ve heard of those people ? they're supporting a good cause. It must be a blast climbing the big redwoods and douglass firs. The highest I?ve been up in a tree is around 110? in the midwest. That?s nothing compared to the heights of the Big Trees in the PNW. Must be nice to live in a tree and not have to work!

RE: Tree people
I'm sure that they if you wanted to join them you could quit your job, sell your car, take your pack and go. I for one am not that passionate. Although that is a thought.

RE: Tree people
Last time I was in a tree that high, I was topping it, what a rush. Sorry this was a bad spot to say that. I love trees, the bigger the better and they are even better when they are still standing.

RE: Tree people
LG & I met a guy in Portland in a park that said he was going to CA to go treeing. He said that meant going into a forest, and sitting on the ground amongst the trees. He also said he smoked marijuana for medical reasons. I guess that's why he is just sitting in the forest and not hiking it, lol.

He mentioned the medical pot to Lookingglass because he looks like a cop and he thought he was going to get busted by him.

RE: Tree people
lobo, why were you topping trees? I hope you were doing a take-down. There's no excuse for topping a tree rather than giving it a proper trimming job . No arborist worth a cr@p would consider topping a tree as a means of checking its growth. Also, no arborist would use spikes to climb a tree, unless he was taking the tree down. Recreational climbers always use ropes rather than spikes. I'm not saying you're guilty of any of this lobo, it's just that the stupid fools who unnecessarily harm trees (usually to save a few bucks) give the arborists and recreational climbers a bad name. Just wanted to make it clear that true professionals and recreational climbers take care to protect the tree from damage when they climb.

RE: Tree people
Sorry, I was a logger about 15 years ago and I topped the trees to put our rigging in, this gave us some lift so we didn't tear up the ground so bad when skidding logs to the landing. And yes there are better ways to log that are less damaging. And I also believe that logging is good although I think that the old growth should be left to become older growth, it won't cause us to run out of lumber if we leave some old growth forest here and there. Like I said I love standing tree's more than anyone.
