Poets???

I saw these victims of continued death
For lived they never - were naked all, and loud
Around them closed a never-ceasing cloud
Of hornets and great wasps, that buzzed and clung,
Weak pain for weaklings meet, - and where they stung,
Blood from their faces streamed, with sobbing breath,
And all the ground beneath with tears and blood
Was drenched, and crawling in that loathsome mud
There were great worms that drank it

Holy crap, Rad got a degree in burger flipping. You never cease to amaze me Radagast. Most hearty kudos to you!

I have a basic appreciation for the fine arts, but don't have the background to answer these questions. i basically like to wander the museum gallaries and look.

RE: name the artist
Don't know about Georgie Porgie but...

The Rape of Lucretia is a story from ancient Rome: while her husband is away, the virtuous Lucretia is raped by Sextus, the son of the King Tarqunius the Proud.

In order to save her honor Lucretia takes her own life, but not before revealing the reason of the suicide in a letter to her father and husband. On her tomb her family gave an oath to avenge.

As a result a rebellion took place against the tyrant Tarquinius. The revolt led to the fall of the king's power of Rome and foundation of the Roman Republic.

Lucretia has been painted by a couple of people, most notably Botticelli & Rembrant. :o)

Who wrote this?

"I heed not that my earthly lot
Hath - little of Earth in it -
That years of love have been forgot
In the hatred of a minute: -
I mourn not that the desolate
Are happier, sweet, than I,
But that you sorrow for my fate
Who am a passer-by.

LOL! Yeah it's Edgar Allen Poe... do you kow how he got his middle name?
The poem you're thinking of is called "The Raven"

"...the silken, sad, uncertain rustling of each purple curtain
Thrilled me-filled me with fantastic terrors never felt before;
So that now, to still the beating of my heart, I stood repeating
"Tis some visitor entreating entrance at my chamber door-
Some late visitor entreating entrance at my chamber door;-
This it is and nothing more"
-from The Raven

To know someone
here or there
With whom you can feel there is understanding
In spite of distances or thoughts unexpressed,
That can make of thid earth
A garden.
