I gotta share this!

“I am a first year SkillsUSA-VICA advisor at my school. I have been active for the five years that I've been teaching, but in a secondary capacity below another advisor. That advisor took our VICA Quiz Bowl Team to three consecutive NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS! The streak was ended in Kansas City last summer - bumma! Anyhoo, she transferred to a new school (Union Grove H.S.) in our district this year, and established a VICA Chapter there.

Today we had the region contests at a technical college a couple hours from here. I brought, among others, a Quiz Bowl team. So did she.

I was busy judging a plumbing contest, and was unable to watch the Quiz Bowl. During a break in the action, I saw a couple of my guys in the hallway.
"How goes it?" I asked.
"We're one point behind Jones County High School, and seven behind Union Grove with only fifty questions remaining."

Long story short - we won by ONE POINT!
Whoo-hoo!
We're going to state again (four year defending champions), but more importantly, we're going to KC in June to bring that trophy back!!

Geez -
It was great to beat Deb...
(but I can't gloat TOO much, because second place qualifies for state, which means we'll meet again in May).

“Last year I did skills USA-Vica compitition in Law Enforcement. Made it all the way to the state level and then came in fourth place... Not to bad, but I didn't make the cut to make it to Nationals. Contrats..”

“VICA stands for Vocational Industrial Clubs of America. It gives people in a specific vocational class a chance to compete against other people in the same field. A plumbing contest is probably just what it sounds like... A plumbing contest. Each contest has a pre-defined grading sheet, and each contestent is graded on there performance, and stuff like that.

The thing that I want to be a judge for is the baking contest... yummm....”
