“I've been cleaning out my gear closet tonight. MAN, I'm still organizing stuff. I got packs hanging everywhere. sleeping bags pilling up. Shelves full of water containers, stoves, cookpots, filters, etc. I got one bin of nothing but stuff sacks. One full of repair parts. One FULL of socks, gloves, & hats. Plus 2 huge Rubbermaid containers FULL of junk I aint used in YEARS.
I'm a Gear Ho and I need help.......NOT!!”

“actually, W-Dude, I just bought a few things at a cyber yard sale a week or so ago. I am awaiting the arrival of my goodies now!

It's a great idea though...I feel safer buying gear from somebody I "know" through a backpacker site, rather than an anonymous source like e-bay.

I got a sweet deal on Tubbs Adventure series, Eclipse snowshoes, never used, and a Gregory Reality pack, used 3x.

“What is this spring cleaning fever? (yeah right, at 10 below zero) I'm doing the same thing. My spare room looked like an LL Bean showroom! I've got $50 in LL coupons that I'm embarassed to spend - think I'll get my grandaughter a camelbak, she loves mine. Thing is I take my nephews, kids and grandkids camping and backpacking and we need the spare gear - especially when they bring their ill equiped friends.

A guy at work is involved in scouts and mentioned they're always short on gear so I'm giving them some things I never use any more. I'm gonna let them borrow other stuff like packs, that way it'll get more use and I won't feel like such a gear hog!”

Several months ago someone on this board had their favorite tent destroyed while in the "capable care" of a brother-in-law (I think.) You'd do better to spend money at yards sales on gear and donate it to a troop (which it seems you are doing.)”

Do you feel better knowing you have a dz. water bottles and 4 stoves and 6 sleeping bags or whatever the case maybe. You do nothing but feed the " corporate machine" that so many of you gripe about. Don't waste your money chasing a fad and following the trend. Get what you need and leave the lusting for the others and you will be a better person.”

None of it is top of the line (see $300 Challenge thread) but it works OK for the midwest. So shut up already! There's a lot worse things people could be spending their money on! Dude, I'm the one whose tent got trashed. It was my boyfriend's brother who was "responsible" for it at the time, but to be fair, I'm the one who set it up under the dead tree branch, and it also wasn't really his fault that a big storm came up while I was away from camp.”

“Buddur, no one was in the tent or they probably would have been killed. Sometimes the boyfriend's brother gets on my nerves but not that much. And the tent is still usable since I repaired it, but I think the zippers are going to give out because the tent is not exactly the shape it is supposed to be anymore.

I cleaned out my personal gear shop a couple of weekends ago (must be a spring fever kinda thing around here) but most of the stuff I got rid of was junk like old cotton long johns, rock-hard bags of marshmallows, and several hundred (well it seemed like it anyway) used Ziploc bags. I probably could turn loose a couple of kids' daypacks since I found a great deal on some slightly better ones a few months ago.”
