New compass aid “Here's a new toy for all you gear ho's. It's a new map and compass accessory, the Sierra Map Aide, that corrects for local magnetic declination. www.mapaide.com. You'll have to take this out for a test drive and see how it does for you.” 1:35:34 PM 3/04/01 RE: New compass aid “I have a compensating compass. I think I'll stick with that.” 6:11:04 PM 3/04/01 RE: New compass aid “I understand this thing also works with maps. Don't ask me how. I'm not a techie.” 9:26:54 PM 3/04/01 RE: New compass aid “You can make these yerself if'n ya had some transparent mylar, a protractor, straightedge and fine-point sharpie. They are for those who don't have a declinating adjustment on their compass, or just haven't adjusted for it. Orient the map with compass to north (magnetic north), lay the transparency on the map side edges aligned north/south, and the transparency declination angles indicate direction of true north. From there you can shoot an accurate bearing and GO!” 8:34:54 PM 3/05/01
