Santa Cruz hippies “In my younger days I lived for about a year in the Santa Cruz area and remember it as a very cool, laid back hippie community. For you foaks on the West Coast, is Santa Cruz still like that?” 10:51:30 PM 3/04/01 RE: Santa Cruz hippies “I once had a Santa-Cruz 5-Ply with Lazer Trucks and red 70mm Kryptonic wheels. I was so young and that board meant alot to me. Getting it from the mailman made for one of the best days of my life.” 12:55:36 AM 3/05/01 RE: Santa Cruz hippies “Steve h, Yeah, and Ken and the Merry Pranksters still live in La Honda.” 1:05:59 AM 3/05/01 RE: Santa Cruz hippies “I had some friends who lived in La Honda for a few years. Neat place.” 11:01:45 AM 3/05/01 RE: Santa Cruz hippies “"Getting it from the mailman made for one of the best days of my life." that's what my wife said” 11:07:05 AM 3/05/01 RE: Santa Cruz hippies “Lumpy did you ever notice that your kids resemble the mailman? LOL” 11:18:25 AM 3/05/01 RE: Santa Cruz hippies “Steve Hiker, I went to UCSC but I haven't been back there more than a couple of times since 1985. (The one time I was down there 4 years after the earthquake, the mall looked like a completely different town.) I'm sure it's a lot less laid back than it used to be, but it's probably still looser than a lot of places. When were you there?” 11:52:31 AM 3/05/01 RE: Santa Cruz hippies “Had a gal friend in Santa Cruz for a while I used to travel back and forth a lot. I was on the Boardwalk a couple of Years ago with my family all 5 of us are coaster nuts I told them we just had to ride the "Big Dipper" (I think that's the name). That old wooden coaster is about the only thing I recognized But I hadn't been there, in over 20 years.” 12:20:41 PM 3/05/01 RE: Santa Cruz hippies “Hippies! Wow, man! Hug a tree, eat some oatmeal. chicks--don't shave your legs or pits for, oh. . . about a year. smell like a terd. lick my crack, okay!? you tie-died bunch of VW-luvin' vegans. LOSERS” 12:39:38 PM 3/05/01 RE: Santa Cruz hippies “Tis' better to remain silent and be thought of a fool...than to speak and remove all doubt!” 12:54:08 PM 3/05/01 RE: Santa Cruz hippies “blow me, loser” 1:17:30 PM 3/05/01 RE: Santa Cruz hippies “H2SO-HO Feces smeller - I will like to blow you, k? Then, I will show you the nother end of yer goober befor I feed it toSkinny Kenny and the nother kittykittys that are his brudders and seesters and cussins and mama. When we went there for a tour she seemed pretty pleased with the hippy community at the college.” 3:06:15 PM 3/05/01 RE: Santa Cruz hippies “Tehipite's a slug, more specifically a Banana Slug. That's UCSC's mascot. Sure, there are still hippies in Santa Cruz. I work with one, he's about 60 with a grey pony tail and drives a VW Van (albeit it's a new one). In Santa Cruz there a wide variety of groups: hippies, homeless, surfers/skaters, students, yuppies, illegal aliens and lesbians. In fact, Santa Cruz is the lesbian capital of the United States. There is also greta fishing off of the rocks and some good backpacking shops.” 4:11:27 PM 3/05/01 RE: Santa Cruz hippies “i'll bet ms garbo does not appreciate that, at all!” 4:22:18 PM 3/05/01 RE: Santa Cruz hippies “That's right, BaSO4. And about 20 years ago, when the administration proposed changing the mascot to 'seals' or something innocuous like that--something more 'respectable'--the student body rose en masse and put an end to it. We liked our banana slugs. There were plenty of hippies at UCSC, but I wasn't one of them. I was dressing in suits, drinking martinis, and listening to lounge music and punk.” 4:49:35 PM 3/05/01 RE: Santa Cruz hippies “Call me slow (I don't think I'm the first to guess this) but I think H2SO4_Facemelter is WC” 5:14:48 PM 3/05/01 RE: Santa Cruz hippies “Yup, Ice, we're way ahead of you. We guessed you were slow loooooong ago. ;oP” 5:29:40 PM 3/05/01 RE: Santa Cruz hippies “Tehipite, aren't there some great beaches around UCSC, Red, White and Blue beach or Panther Beach?” 5:37:21 PM 3/05/01 RE: Santa Cruz hippies “BaSO4, I always kept my suit on, so I didn't go to Red, White, & Blue much. ;-) But assuming you're not being facetious, there is a great string of secluded little pocket beaches up the coast from SC. Check out the California Coastal Access Guide, which lists them all.” 5:45:54 PM 3/05/01 RE: Santa Cruz hippies “There is a great string of pocket beaches along the coast there -- though I have not been to RW&B beach, either! About, jeez, 10 years ago, some buds and I decided we needed to learn how to surf. So we headed down to Santa Cruz, popped into a local shop, and rented boards and wetsuits. The guy in the shop gave us a few pointers and told us where to go and, poof, we were on our own. So we headed out, as instructed, to the waves north (??) of the pier, and paddled out. The surfers were real nice to us, but had us spotted as surf-virgins from the first minute. Called us "cherry" or "first-timer" and such and had a few laughs at our expense (but friendly-like). We couldn't figure out how it was that even before our first ride they made us for obvious newcomers. We realized the problem later. Like a bunch of clowns, we all had our wetsuits zipped up the front. Like wearing a "dork" sign visible from a mile away. Had a great time anyway and we all managed to get up to standing for at least one ride.” 6:33:19 PM 3/05/01 RE: Santa Cruz hippies “You freakin retards ALL suck. I'm not this stupid facemelting jizz-mop or a hippie lover. get a life, you commies!!!! DOWN WITH THIS COMMUNIST MANIFESTO! UP WITH THE WORKING MAN!” 7:24:51 PM 3/05/01 RE: Santa Cruz hippies “Can someone please get this guy his Prozac.” 8:45:18 PM 3/05/01 RE: Santa Cruz hippies “Here's a link to Santa Cruz's Compassion Flower Inn, described as "the nation's first Bud, Bed & Breakfast." It was opened for people with a medical need to smoke marijuana, which is legal in Santa Cruz. There are pot leaves stenciled on the wallpaper, a Hemp Room, and a Passion Flower Room (presumably for honeymooners). Bud, Bed & Breakfast” 10:43:33 PM 3/05/01 RE: Santa Cruz hippies “Gonna rise up...and wake & bake. Gonna rise up...and wake & bake. Gonna rise up...and wake & bake, earliii in tha mornin'!” 10:50:39 PM 3/05/01 RE: Santa Cruz hippies “There was a funeral for the hippies in 1967.” 11:11:21 PM 3/05/01 RE: Santa Cruz hippies 12:03:58 AM 3/06/01
