Destination suggestions for someone with MS “My wife is an avid hiker, but recently diagnosed with MS and is able to do limited day hikes. Any suggestions of places that ofer great views that might be appropriate for her? Thanks!” 12:57:39 PM 3/06/01 RE: Destination suggestions for someone with MS “what area are you looking at? There are drive-ups and "family friendly" hikes all over the place... You might want to try a search on the gorp sites - I think they offer a search by hike difficulty rating and length. :o)” 1:01:19 PM 3/06/01 RE: Destination suggestions for someone with MS “Yes, what area of the country? Call the ranger stations ahead of time; sometimes diabled are allowed to drive on the Jeep trails and fire roads to access the inner parts of the parks, and you can set up a basecamp there and do day hikes.” 2:28:52 PM 3/06/01 RE: Destination suggestions for someone with MS “Best of luck to both of you. I hope she can continue to do the things she loves.” 4:23:45 PM 3/06/01 RE: Destination suggestions for someone with MS “fffred, Where are you writing from? I'm in the same boat. My SO has MS and can do about 100 yards at a stretch. Obviously, she's not gonna be with me while I polish off the Long Trail, but I'm looking for trailheads we could get to where she would feel safe and comfortable in a base camp while I took off for a day or two. If you're on the East Coast, maybe we could hook up. Let us know what you find out as far as options go.” 4:53:20 PM 3/06/01 RE: Destination suggestions for someone with MS “fffred, where are you? There are more than a few places here in Northern CA that I could recommend...” 9:28:12 PM 3/08/01 RE: Destination suggestions for someone with MS “Currently we're in Chicago, but willing to travel some distance. Prior to MS we've done Rawah-a couple of times, Isle Royale, Glacier once, and since her onset of MS we've done some canoeing in Sylvania. Some day hikes in Sierras. Location is flexible, but looking for something picturesque while she can still do some short hikes.” 1:00:46 AM 3/09/01 RE: Destination suggestions for someone with MS “My wife also has MS. Diagnosed in 89. Lots of variables with MS. Everyone has different limits. Learning your wifes limits (if any!) will be a process that is difficult for both you and her. We've been stranded a time or two, and it can be rough to deal with. MS is a baffling and powerful and incurable disease to date. If your wife has questions, let me know, my wife may be able to shed some light on the subject.” 1:22:09 AM 3/10/01 RE: Destination suggestions for someone with MS “My wife also has MS.
