“The original design. I bought one for around $30 7 or 8 years ago, so it does look like a bargain. It won't keep you dry unless you rig a tarp over it. they're tippy and unstable. I put in two spreader bars, one at either end to make it seem roomier, and to improve stability (only slightly). They're heavy cotton canvas, and not suitable for climbing or backpacking. Really only useful for keeping the insects out. Unless you want something like that for your backyard or car camping, don't bother.”

“I recently reccomended this on another site. Brigade Quartermasters has an 18oz two layer fabric hammock for about $30 that doesn't have a fly or net, but looks like a good deal. Combine that with a poncho, and a 4oz bug net if you need one, you would have a good hammock shelter to play with for about $40 if you already own a poncho or use some plastic tarp for a fly.

I really don't reccomend the military hammock.”
