Southeastern Float Suggestions?
After our little ECT Cumberland canoe/rowing trip in a few weeks, I will still have six days to kill. I'm thinking that as long as I have the rowboat in my truck, I might as well keep it wet.

I've done a day trip on the Okeefenokee, and have been itching to get back for a multi-niter. However, getting a reservation for a backcountry site(s) would be impossible at this hour (March and April is the busy season, and sites have been sold out for months). I've slept in the boat before, tho, and would be willing to do it again. I figure that as long as I can find dry land a couple times a day (for Belle to pee and what not), we'll be in good shape.

Then again, I'm wondering about some other nearby bods-o-water, ie, Suwanee, Black River, Gulf Coast? For instance, I'd like to row to St. Vincents Island. I've read a little about it, and would like to give it a go (tho it's day use only).

I've also considered going to PCB. I go there every Spring Break, and camp at St. Andrews SP - I like to fish the jettys. Problem is, they don't allow dogs, and this year I'll have the 'ol Belle-and-chain. LOL!

Anybody out there got some feedback or recommendations?

RE: Southeastern Float Suggestions?
St. Mary's looks possible. I could enter the Okey from the St. Mary's canal near Folkston (east entrance).

In the days when I did lots of canoeing, I had a dream trip that started with putting-in below Jackson Lake, GA, (40 miles north of Macon) on the Ocmulgee. 250 miles later, the river enters the Atlantic at Darien - merging with the Oconee (and forming the Altamaha) about midway down. The Altamaha/Ocmulgee/Oconee is the longest unobstructed waterway in the Eastern U.S. A friend of mine did both the Ocmulgee/Altamaha and the Oconee/Altamaha.
Bastard!

Anyhoo, at Darien, I would take the intracoastal south to the St. Marys, up the Marys to the canal, across the "swomp" to the Suwanee, and down the Swan to the gulf. Kewl, huh?

As far as next month - I'm still thinkin'...

Gojo, try the chestatee near delohnaga, ga, real easy float, my dog has swum the whole 7 mile stretch, from 52,to400
Also try the cartacay, near ellijay, or the etowah, though there is a major portage around the falls, maybe the chattahoochee

RE: Southeastern Float Suggestions?
I wanna keep it south.

I'll most likely do the Okeefenokee for a one-niter: put in at Folkston, row in a few miles, camp, and row out the next day (Wednesday). View birds, gators, flora, etc. Drink a few brewskies.

Drive to Apalachicola Wed p.m., and crash in the truck. Put in at (St. Joe? - I know it's geographical location), and row out to St. Vincents Island for a dayhike on Thursday. View deer, birds, gators, flora, etc. (the red wolves were removed last year). Drink a couple beers.

Drive to PCB Thursday p.m. Crash in truck. Be at St. Andrews SP gate Friday when they open - tackle rigged and bait in the box. Put in at ramp, and take tide out to the bay inlet, drop anchor and fish the jettys. Snatch the freakin' gills out of Spanish, kings, reds, and blues, Drink like a fish. Take tide back in. Shower. Put more ice on fish. Drive home (6 hrs.). Last year, PCB was COLD, cloudy, and WINDY! The seas were 4-5 ft. at the inlet - that'd be a little much for the Cumberland Belle, I'm afraid.

Whoo-hoo
I gotta plan!
