What does everyone drive?

“Tacoma was a bit more expensive than "comparable" American trucks. But I wouldn't give you a plug nickel for either an S-10, Ranger, Jimmy, or Dakota (someone in my family [or friend] drives/drove each of those). Sorry, folks, but I TRIED. I read, observed, and asked around - I work too hard to pay for my first new vehicle, and I wanted dependability first and foremost.

Again, 111,000 miles (98) and never even tuned-up. I promise to do so reeeel soon tho, K?

I did put break pads on several thousand miles ago, tho.

And a light bulb... I had to replace a blown light bulb.

And I change the oil religiously every 3,4,5,6,7 or 8 thousand miles or so, prolly... mebbe.

“1991 Jeep Cherokee I bought new, now has 99,460 miles. Looks kind of rough after taking it on goat trails and a couple of parking lot accidents, but it still runs great.

“89 Jeep Cherokee Laredo 4-door. Lotsa rust, dents, etc. 177,000 miles. Been rolled. Tranny grinds and that's my big worry. But have been advised "don't replace till it goes." Fingers crossed (what happens when a tranny goes???!!?) Thule roof rack. Got the Jeep for $400 over a year ago (although I have put over $1,000 into it). But I LOVE THE JEEP!! And couldn't have afforded any other way.

84 Ford Tempo. Not my car of choice, but a car I "inherited." Runs great...errr... well sometimes it almost kills (or does kill) at stoplights. Runs better when put in a lower gear, so it is "pulling." (I need to have this looked at.. lol) Only 57,000 miles. A little rust. Over all, a good car I'm happy to have.

Although it's just been sitting for 2-3 years now (after it's last problem, I just limped it home and never got repaired), I really liked my 89 Mazda 323 SE 4-door. Huge trunk. A 5-speed with get-up-and-go-like-hell power. The best air conditioner I've ever had.

“Lizs, if you're gonna wait till your tranny goes, get yourself a cell phone to call the towtruck with! Or stay in town... :o) The tranny on my 3/4 ton suburban went half-way up a logging road one Sunday afternoon. It took me 5 hours to get back down & to the closest phone....

Now I drive a '98 Honda Civic Sedan. Awesome fuel economy, great price and as long as my car isn't full of adults, the hp it's got is more than enough for me! It'll easily go 160km/hr without complaining.”

Lots of times I have a mt. bike along, which would help (but lots of times I don't, too.....lol) That would be a Specialized Rockhopper with front shock... some Manitou model I think (or is it Mariocchi, or however that's spelled?)

medic girl, I took the Jeep to the Black Hills last March by myself (and had an oil leak problem then -- had to put around 7-8 quarts oil in it on the trip)....... and boyfriend and I took it on a two-week trip through Kansas, Colorado, Arizona, Utah and back home. It held up quite well (I was prepared to Greyhound it home otherwise, or have a really long vacation!) It didn't start at Tropic, the town in valley below Bryce. Got towed on a flatbed to a station just outside Bryce. After all THAT all it needed was BATTERY CABLES!! Like $1.50 apiece. SHEESH!! LOL!! Glad it was nothing worse. :-)”

“I did drive an '83 Ford Thunderbird. Dirt tracks up to trailheads took their toll and I drove it 10years in Phoenix with no A/C saving my pennies. Finally after 14 years scrimped and saved enough to buy a Landcruiser. YeeHah!!! Then my wife confiscated it. I now drive an old Toyota pickup.”

“I drive a 1989 GMC 1/2 ton 4x4 extended cab pickup truck. Pulled into Dead Horse Point state park Saturday night (just drove up from Monument Valley) and it died in the parking lot, with smoke billowing out from under the hood. My truck is 11 years old, but my 2 year old NAPA alternator had frozen up, burning up a belt in the process. So, my lovely wife got to make a 12 hour round trip from the north part of the state (Utah) with parts for me. All without complaint. All this to photograph the sunrise from Dead Horse point, and the storm didn't clear the whole time I was there. It snowed practically non-stop.”

“Lizs, mine made a horrible grinding noise, then a loud 'thunk' and wouldn't go back into gear. I'm sure it probably would've coasted, but being on an uphill slope I wasn't about to find out! Thank God for E-brakes!!! From what I understand though(I work on people not cars), the tranny will sometimes leave one gear intact allowing you to drive in reverse all the way home.... ;-)”
