Finally
..got my Toyota Matrix last month...after an eight month wait. Was supposed to be 4 months, but they ordered an automatic transmission for me by mistake (arrived in July). I refused it...so I had to wait another 4 months.

1 - '98 Dodge Ram Van 1500

2 - '95 Buick Le Sabre - My wifes, but one of my favorites.

I'd like to get an older Jeep 4x4, so I can get to trailheads that have non plowed access roads. Something along a project Jeep, if ya know what I mean.

Speaking of: LOL @ Buddur!!

I have a new Subaru Outback that I love. I also have a Plymouth Voyager minivan, but the seats are uncomfortable for me. They give me a backache even on very short drives. The Subaru, however, fits great and is a pleasure to drive. Should be better in winter driving too.

1990 S-10, 120,000 miles, paid cash, don't need collision insurance, don't need to lock the doors or wash it. Saving the money for more important things, like retiring early :-)

Martyb-

Yeah, I live in the city and commute down to Palo Alto...sometimes during the summer I'd just about cry when I got to Pacifica...sunny and 80 where I left and foggy and 59 where I was going...

I should probably know this, but what part of the east bay are you in? I used to live in Berkeley, and some day, I want to move back...I prefer the east bay, the fiancee prefers the city...

I have used heated seats in my buddy's car up in Tahoe last winter...they were great!

Still driving Christine...
But her paint has faded significantly in Georgia's summer sun, she has developed a disturbing vibration/rattle at higher speeds and today she sported an ominous knocking noise from the engine on the way to work. She goes into the shop (again) tomorrow. We're shopping for a replacement but I can't help thinking, "Shop faster, shop faster!"

Bongo, I'm in Alameda - great place because it's real close to the City, yet in the East Bay. We lived in the City for a while (I was born in SF actually, grew up in San Mateo), but the East Bay is better for us now, especially for housing costs and child-rearing. Work in "Palo Alto"? Used to live in Berkeley, huh? Which side of Big Game are you on?

1988 Toyota Tercel, this car has nothing, you know how on your rearview mirror you have that tab that you can push or pull so at night the headlights aren't so bright... yeah my car DOESN'T have that! But it gets 40 mpg.

Also 1988 Honda Accord can't complain 196,842 miles.

1996 Honda Shadow 1100 American Classic, 100% manufactured and built in USA, HD can't say that!

MartyB-

I am employed by the team in Red (well, their hospital at least), but my heart is with the Bears...being an ND fan, I could never root for Stanford.

Alameda is supposed to be great. I have a few friends who have moved there and love it.

Yeah, I knew you were an ND fan, bongo, but I didn't bring it up, since, well, you know all about the coach hiring thing. Maybe we should make a pitcher of beer bet for next year's game.

I used to work at Stanford, too, for about 7 years after I graduated. Great place to work, as I think any college campus would be. "We" are due to lose the Big Game, so won't be disappointed if Cal wins. But college football is fairly unpredictable - that's why I like it.
Martyb

11/22/02

Martyb-

yeah, the running joke in my family is that ND stole Ty and all Stanford got in return was me...

you are on for next year's game...I usually refuse to bet on teams I like, because they always disappoint, but that's a bet I am willing to take.

Agreed on the upredictability of college football...and rivalry games always bump that unpredictability up a notch...see ND/BC as a painful example (for me) of that...

Thanks for getting us back on topic, ng! I was afraid I'd have to start justifying my 2-8 football team's existence....

Rox, my first car was a new '83 Tercel with "nothing" in it - great car! Copper color (I think they called it "metallic orange"). I see one of that year once in a while and always look carefully at it to see if it was my old one - it's probably still running!

Go Corsicas!!!
Christine is a '93 Corsica. She recently rolled over 250,000 miles. I'll miss her when she's passed on to the great beyond. I just can't help but think that it's going to happen on the way home from work today, lol.

I've never understood the fascination some guys (and sometimes gals) have with cars...

But FWIW I drive a 98 Neon with 130,000 miles on it. I just hope it lasts until I finish paying for it. :)

I believe in driving a car until it drops. The cheapest car to drive is almost always the car you already own. As a man staring in the face of 20 years of college expenses, I am in no position to be choosy about my wheels.
