What about dream cars??” 10:30:06 PM 3/07/01 RE: What does everyone drive? “I drive a Ford Taurus, but not but choice. Actually since I'm at school right now, my main means of transportation are Asolo AFX 520's.” 10:34:36 PM 3/07/01 RE: What does everyone drive? “1989 Honda Civic Wagovan. I call it "The Goat". My girlfriend calls it "the ugliest car (is it even a car?) ever made".” 11:26:43 PM 3/07/01 RE: What does everyone drive? “Ford Ranger w/ Extended cab. It's OK. I want a mini van of some kind next. Maybe a Dodge......I don't know. Make & modle ain't that big of a deal to me.” 11:32:26 PM 3/07/01 RE: What does everyone drive? “I have a Honda Prelude and love it. It's the most reliable car I've ever had and handles very well. Don't think I'd want a truck unless I lived in the backwoods. Gas guzzling and all. Also trucks seen to get dented up all the time.” 11:32:29 PM 3/07/01 RE: What does everyone drive? “Yo Steve Hiker, How many backpackers can you fit in that car? LOL!” 11:40:45 PM 3/07/01 RE: What does everyone drive? “Yeah, I put on shoes - or sometimes not - and walk.” 11:50:26 PM 3/07/01 RE: What does everyone drive? “The NYC subway.(Well I don't actually drive it)” 11:52:52 PM 3/07/01 RE: What does everyone drive? “3-4 days a week a Cannondale R800 road bike. The rest of the time a '99 Ford F-150, 4WD, extended cab, long bed. I have a pop up camper that with one double and one single bed.” 11:59:37 PM 3/07/01 RE: What does everyone drive? “2000 GMC Sierra 2500 with the extended cab” 12:29:48 AM 3/08/01 RE: What does everyone drive? “1990 Honda Civic hatchback - 220,000 miles, 45 mpg on the highway. For a brief period at the end of the 20th century, I actually owned a car that was being driven in the decade it was manufactured. Nothing but beaters for me up here - the dirt roads, snow, ice, salt, and mud beat the crap out of anything. Having long ago lost all sense of vanity about having "cool" wheels, I'm happy just to have something that gets me from point A to point B as cheaply as possible. A DKW would be handy here, and I'm lusting for a Unimog for it's ground clearance.” 12:35:23 AM 3/08/01 RE: What does everyone drive? “Jeep nuf said” 12:56:55 AM 3/08/01 RE: What does everyone drive? “Cattle, Yeeee Haaaaaaw Rawhide Baby!” 1:37:56 AM 3/08/01 RE: What does everyone drive? “When looking for a new car last fall I really liked the idea of a hybrid. 60-70 mpg, clean air, save the petrol, cutting edge of culture and all that. Then I test drove a VW GTI VR6, that's all it took. I love my car and 30 mpg ain't all that bad. At least it ain't no SUV, two lanes wide, V8 for no reason, smoke spewin view blockin beast. And it's a lot<\b> of fun to drive.” 2:09:04 AM 3/08/01 RE: What does everyone drive? 2:15:36 AM 3/08/01 RE: What does everyone drive? “'98 Dodge Dakota 4x4, '96 Eagle Talon Turbo AWD (my play/race car). Anybody looking for a '98 extended cab Dakota? Its up for sale since I can't afford to keep both!” 2:22:24 AM 3/08/01 RE: What does everyone drive? “'99 S-10 4 cyl, 5 speed, 2 wheel drive pickup. It was one of those sweet $135/month leases. It's nice, very comfortable, but the gas mileage should be better, the best I've gotten is 26 mpg.” 7:48:09 AM 3/08/01 RE: What does everyone drive? “F250, of course.” 8:03:10 AM 3/08/01 RE: What does everyone drive? “98 Toyota Tacoma 2WD extended cab. 111,000 miles, and counting. I figure I'll drive it for 3 more years, at which time it'll have prolly 200k + miles. Then it's time for a 4WD Tundra! God Bless America! ...and Japan.” 8:12:40 AM 3/08/01 RE: What does everyone drive? “...to carry that 3/4 ton ass??? 1987 Audi 4000, 200,000 miles, 30 mpg Both are actually up and runnin' and my 17 year old son hasn't crashed either one in a while!” 8:17:09 AM 3/08/01 RE: What does everyone drive? “97 F-150 with the 5.4 v8. Love's copious amounts of petrol, but it's nice to have the umph to pull the camper. It's the only way I can get the wife anywhere close to a wilderness experience. I love a truck for it's spaciousness;my next auto will be an economy car to commute to whatever my next career will be.” 8:29:42 AM 3/08/01 RE: What does everyone drive? “1995 4WD Suzuki Sidekick, 4 door, 4 speed, 4 cylinder, 30mpg, 90,000 miles.” 8:37:01 AM 3/08/01 RE: What does everyone drive? “The "3/4 ton" comment was for bacpac, by the way. I commute on foot....its 2 kilometers each way and hilly.....billy!” 8:48:59 AM 3/08/01 RE: What does everyone drive? “1999 Ponitac Grand Prix (me) 1998 Pontiac Sunfire (daughter #1) 1997 Pontiac Sunfire (daughter #2) 1996 Chevy Astrovan (wife) 1991 4WD Geo Tracker (son) The Tracker is actually a very well build and great performing off-road vehicle. After 160,000 miles (including lots of dirt roads, mud, snow, etc.) we had the engine and transmission rebuilt and intend to keep it along time.” 9:16:58 AM 3/08/01 RE: What does everyone drive? “2000 Saturn SL - Cheap, reliable, comfortable, great gas mileage....and 6 cup-holders!” 9:20:46 AM 3/08/01 RE: What does everyone drive? “i used to drive an 88 ramcharger with a 5.9. 11 MPG, baby! now i have a 2000 tj and it gets MUCH better mileage... 18 MPG!” 9:24:20 AM 3/08/01 RE: What does everyone drive? “All the women crazy. D'oh!” 9:34:32 AM 3/08/01 RE: What does everyone drive? “2000 Ford Focus wagon (already 16,000+) on which we traded a 91 Plymouth Voyager with 144,000. We do a lot of highway miles, 33mpg. Also looks nicest when my wife has to be seen in public for her job. 89 Ford Taurus, around 110,000 and more rust each day, but actually still comfortable. Repairs are accumulating. Whoever has the least driving to do on the day takes this. 78 Ford F-100 Custom pickup, 87,000. Cast iron 6-cyl, a real carbeurator, rotting wheel wells and floor of box, but always starts. Our woods vehicle. The latter two may go soon in favor of a Jeep or small pickup.” 9:46:13 AM 3/08/01 RE: What does everyone drive? “'97 Accord. 35mpg (in the mountains/on the plains--no matter). 75k miles--hope to hit 200k.” 10:02:24 AM 3/08/01 RE: What does everyone drive? “glad to see another VW owner here. I have a 2000 Jetta VR6: Garrett chip, Neuspeed Exhaust, K&N drop-in, TT pedals and Dead pedal, H&R/Bilstien. Gotta love the VR6! Loads of low-end torque & it sounds soooo sweet when revved hard. Jetta is rock steady @ 130+ mph. Hmmm, lots of truck owners. I like american trucks, I have a 1988 Ford F150. But american cars? No thanks, with a few notable exceptions, they're not anywhere close to the quality and reliability of Jap/Kraut cars. Ponticraps....blech!” 10:37:02 AM 3/08/01 RE: What does everyone drive? “1998 Chevy 1-ton, 4-door crew cab, 454 V8, 12 mpg. Pulls 5th wheel trailer in the summer. In the fall hauls 1-cord firewood in the bed and pulls 1-1/4 cord trailer behind. Still 12 mpg. I love it. Gas, who gives a sh!t. The more I buy, the more my company makes!!! Everyone buy a big SUV, use a lot of gas and keep crude prices high. That way I can get another 6-figure bonus!!!!!!” 11:31:41 AM 3/08/01 RE: What does everyone drive? “I worked for General Motors for 15 years before going into higher education. While I worked for them, I could buy a new car every year with my discount and prefer GM styling anyway. I bought a 78 Corvette that way...wish I still had it! I thought maybe the Japanese and German cars would be cheaper to own, so I bought a used Maxima and a used VW Golf for my kids. Those were the two most expensive (VW parts are made out of gold I guess) cars to maintain, repair, and insure that I have ever owned. I ended up giving the VW to the LA Mission and trading the Maxima in for next to nothing and went back to American cars. I always get the 100,000 mile warranty for peace of mind, and it has paid off. Japanese quality may be better in general, but now there are some Big Three cars that are just as good. I think owning an American car can be cheaper $/mile over the long haul because of lower insurance and repair cost. Two best cars I ever owned for lowest overall cost/mile: 1986 Chevy G20 van. 1991 Geo Tracker (Suzuki/GM joint venture, made in Canada)” 11:39:38 AM 3/08/01 RE: What does everyone drive? “1990 Ford Escort hatchback, with my patented foolproof theft-prevention system: ugly rust spots on the roof, where the previous owner had a roof rack. It gets me to the trailhead, and in the past it has carried 2 humans, 2 backpacks, and food (+ pots etc.) for 7 people for 9 days. It was pretty full, though.” 11:42:11 AM 3/08/01 RE: What does everyone drive? “phil, you realize that the big 3 has been reduced to the big 2, don't you?” 11:45:01 AM 3/08/01 RE: What does everyone drive? “Ford Taurus. I'd like to bicycle to work, but I live in what is considered by many to be one of the most bicycle unfriendly cities in the country. I could never bike the measly eleven miles without serious risk of death, so I contribute to the problem instead.” 11:52:39 AM 3/08/01 RE: What does everyone drive? “Trek mountain bike Cannondale road bike Oh yeah.... a taurus too” 11:54:48 AM 3/08/01 RE: What does everyone drive? “Rad - Yes. But I still see them referred to as the Big Three and they still cooperate using QS-9000. Actually, it is hard to call any vehicle an "American" or "Japanese" made car anymore based on where the parent company is. Toyota Corollas, for example, are made near San Francisco. The Japanese have manufacturing facilities all over the US now and are growing at 12%/year in US production. Many cars that we think are "American" made were actually made in Canada. Parts come from all over the world.” 11:57:43 AM 3/08/01 RE: What does everyone drive? “yeah, i was just talking about the daimler deal.” 12:03:07 PM 3/08/01 RE: What does everyone drive? “1991 Honda Accord 208,000 1987 Nissan P/U 198,000 Schwinn ClearCreek ? All run great and no payments.Sold my new Camaro to my little sister after I got over my mid-life crisis.” 12:08:48 PM 3/08/01 RE: What does everyone drive? “'94 Nissian V6 4x4 extended cab P/U w/cap. Its been a great truck. Dream cars? '49 Merc chopped and channeled, Mid-60's rag top Lincoln w/suicide doors, '00 Viper, Morgan Aero8, Mini Cooper, Sunbeam Tiger, Jensen Intercepter III, well the list go on forever, but for now I'm looking to buy out the other half in the '81 Morgan I co-own. VRMMM, VRMMM, she rides like she on rails and barks it thru 4th.” 12:17:39 PM 3/08/01 RE: What does everyone drive? “Primary transpo: 1978 Vespa PX125 with a 166 top end. Soon I'll be slapping a nice pipe on that sucka and I'll really have fun burning all the motorists at the lights. Boy do they look surprised when I blow past them on a scooter. Plus splitting lanes is legal in California so sitting in traffic is never an issue. 60 miles to the gallon. Of course, it's a two-stroke so I feel sorta guilty about that. I also bicycle a lot. For road trips, hop in the ole 1993 Toyota Crapola stationwagon. 130K. Still going strong. Not a performance vehicle but extremely reliable. Too tight for my long legs and just about ZERO ground clearance are my primary gripes.” 12:29:08 PM 3/08/01 RE: What does everyone drive? “Arf, Arf I've been told Chiseler, er, uh, Chrysler ain't long for dis woild.” 12:44:12 PM 3/08/01 RE: What does everyone drive? “1992 Volvo S/W 95K miles (his) 1974 BMW 2002tii 130K miles (his. In the garage for restoration. 1986 Ford F-150 P/U 120K miles (his). Needs brake work right now but by Spring it will be my street legal wheelbarrel. 1992 Volvo S/W 85 K miles (hers) Same color and interior as mine. When you have good luck with a car buy another one. The car I want is an Audi A-4 Avant S/W in the S-4 variant model with quattro (AWD)and a six speed manual transmission.” 1:05:20 PM 3/08/01 RE: What does everyone drive? “96 toyota tacoma, 4-cyl. 4-wheel drive, extended cab, about 20 mpg. Wish I had a V6 for the mountains. 94k and going strong, needs a lube and a tune and it will be perfect. Looking to get rid of the SO's Ford Contour, no way should a car with 35k on it need new brakes and rotors. P.O.S. American cars!” 1:20:16 PM 3/08/01 RE: What does everyone drive? “chief-thought I was the only "Oilie" here.” 1:25:47 PM 3/08/01 RE: What does everyone drive? “Jeep Cherokee 4x4 4.0 L straight six, auto 17' Bayliner Capri 85 Hp outboard 1984 Daytona Turbo, Direct Connection chip, straight exhaust, alcohol injection, Suspension Techniques suspension, Mancini rollcage, and like you Mutt; a K&N filter. 12 speed Manta Professional road bike” 1:55:25 PM 3/08/01 RE: What does everyone drive? “Converted42, I thought I was the only oil/gas guy here. I see you are working in OK, what company do you work for? I was working for Marathon Oil in Cody, WY, but quit them last April. Currently working for a small independent.” 4:35:18 PM 3/08/01 RE: What does everyone drive? “Rosey, your Vespa makes me reminisce about my Honda CB125, which was my sole transportation for many years. It was just enough to do 55 mph all day - a little more if needed - at 95 mpg. It made me many fond memories - Mt Evans, Yellowstone, Rushmore, Smokies, and many more. Sigh! Now all I have is an average mid-compact car.” 5:03:33 PM 3/08/01 RE: What does everyone drive? “New Balance 878 in a 10.5 D, 88 ford E-350(one ton) work van. Its a piece of crap! but I only work 2.5 miles away, I bike when I can. Though I still havent figured out a car seat for the new baby.” 6:11:35 PM 3/08/01
