Bill Gates' mistress? Lol” 2:41:05 PM 9/08/01 RE: Rain Gear “hey- I resemble that remark! :P” 2:45:04 PM 9/08/01 RE: Rain Gear “I love my frogg toggs and wont leave home without them. best rain gear there is as far as I know. breathable, waterproof, windproof, comfy, lighweight, washable, durable, and cheep. my kind of gear. www.froggtoggs.com” 6:12:51 PM 9/08/01 RE: Rain Gear “I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the 5 oz., $40 Pro-Vent rain jacket. It's described as better than Frogg Toggs in a review at www.thru-hiker.com. However it's not as tough as regular rainwear and will tear if bushwacking. Here's an excerpt from the Thru-Hiker.com review:(If the review is not on the opening page, click on thru-hiker store link.) "ProVent jackets feature the same basic fabric as Frogg Toggs' and Rainshield's jackets but in a traditional hiker's parka design. This jacket will keep you dry in the worst deluges and breathes much better than Gore-Tex. Don't let the low price fool you, this is the lightest, best performing jacket for the trail you'll find. Price: $39.95."” 6:42:41 PM 9/08/01 RE: Rain Gear “The cedar is green for the Marmot Precip.” 7:56:54 PM 9/08/01 RE: Rain Gear “My Precip jacket is dark cedar. It's a dark brownish green, or greenish brown. Very low viz, which is why I bought it, since the others that came in at our local sporting goods store were bright blue, red and yellow. The packable SD set that I have didn't have a big price tag, something like $25 bucks each piece or less retail at the time (got 'em on significant discount off that), so I wasn't worried about it handling full on rain storms. That's where the Precip or Triple-Point come in. Sometimes in spring or fall up here, especially in exposed places along the Great Lakes, a water-resistent wind suit is more important than rainwear.” 7:58:02 PM 9/08/01 RE: Rain Gear “what is low viz? Who gives a sh!t? I just buy it if I like the color.” 8:50:35 PM 9/08/01 RE: Rain Gear “last time I checked, we were backpackers, not Special Services” 8:51:35 PM 9/08/01 RE: Rain Gear “he he Secret Services too much MGD at the pool party” 8:56:55 PM 9/08/01 RE: Rain Gear “he he Special Forces I'm going to bed!” 9:04:22 PM 9/08/01 RE: Rain Gear “Pekka, I bought the Cedar too. I liked it better than any of the other colors.” 9:05:03 PM 9/08/01 RE: Rain Gear “If you go with a poncho check out an Army surplus one (they are available in olive drab and camo). I use a lightweight nylon pullover that has 5 coats of "Kiwi Camp-Dri" sprayed on it. Works great, super cheap.” 10:17:28 PM 9/08/01 RE: Rain Gear “I got a sage green SD Alpine Start” 10:24:06 PM 9/08/01 RE: Rain Gear “I've got a Marmot Precip...dark blue (charoal) color. I find the lip on it's hood abit short..a 1/2 inch longer would be perfect...often when it rains my face gets all wet. It would be nice too if the hood could be folded into the collar.” 1:16:17 AM 9/09/01 RE: Rain Gear “I've heard that same complaint about them before, stanlee.” 7:26:33 AM 9/09/01 RE: Rain Gear “I go with just a pvc poncho with nylon windpants,, I tried the coated nylon poncho's and jacket's but I never felt dry. you can belt the sides down in rough stuff or high winds and I use it for lot's more in camp.Make sure you get one big enough though,, the smaller ones don't cover well even if they do fit better.I've been in nasty storms with no problem, including the Presidentials. the nice thing is, you can string it up to set up and take down your tent and use it as a vestibule too.I always bring a thin wool sweater too, natural oil repels water from outside, but wicks sweat from the inside too.I think of it as natural polypro.” 8:54:19 AM 9/09/01 RE: Rain Gear “I just bought a new Marmot shell jacket in New Hampshire. Can't wait to try it out. Very light weight stuff. Anybody wanna buy a Medium Gor-Tex Parka. Lotsa miles on it but still in great shape?” 10:02:26 PM 9/09/01 RE: Rain Gear “Umm...I've been hiking for four years and I still only use a trash bag.” 10:08:37 PM 9/09/01 RE: Rain Gear “What kinda fukin name is that?” 11:03:02 PM 9/09/01 RE: Rain Gear “who me?” 11:04:17 PM 9/09/01 RE: Rain Gear “who me?” 11:04:47 PM 9/09/01 RE: Rain Gear “who me?” 11:04:55 PM 9/09/01 RE: Rain Gear “looks like somebody learned extended ASCII” 11:12:21 PM 9/09/01 RE: Rain Gear “How did you do that? That's wierd!” 11:12:21 PM 9/09/01 RE: Rain Gear “How did you do that? See: »§êphïró?h« Of course, it would be even nicer if he would post a tutorial and share the knowledge.” 6:04:41 AM 9/10/01 RE: Rain Gear “Can we just call you gephiroth?” 6:44:46 AM 9/10/01 RE: Rain Gear “extended....as$.....key he he he” 9:12:58 AM 9/10/01 RE: Rain Gear “Didn't you used to be Prince?” 9:56:26 AM 9/10/01 RE: Rain Gear “The glyph formally known as... whatever.” 11:13:08 AM 9/10/01 RE: Rain Gear “Prince is cool, and anyone who mimicks him! now there's a Real Man” 11:15:30 AM 9/10/01 RE: Rain Gear “The wise duck keeps his mouth shut when he smells frogs.” 11:18:53 AM 9/10/01
