SmartWool Socks

“Best socks ever. I have about 5 or 6 pairs and, after about a year, one pair developed a hole--smack dab in the center of the bottom of the sock. I called SmartWool and asked if they had any kind of warrantee--they sent me a new pair, no questions asked! Granted, these cost $16/pair, but they keep my feet DRY, ODORLESS and COMFORTABLE.

Just my 2 cents--I've got a pair of Thor-Lo's if anyone wants them. Free--they suck.”

i sleep in my smartwools. they aren't heavy duty enough for me. hell, my mom even wears a pair around the house. freakin' pansy socks.”

“Another vote for SmartWools. I've even used the black liner versions for "dress" occasions this winter. Mucho comfort and thin enough for non-hiking shoes. Worth every penny. About a dozen pair between my wife and myself.”

i have used the same pair of thorlo trekkers since then. the smartwools didn't last a day. freakin' cushy little girly socks, they are!”

“Smartwools are worth every expensive penney it takes to purchase them...if'n ya get 'em on sale! I have about a half-dozen other socks also made of Merinno (sp?) wool, which also work as well as Smartwools. Must be the material.

I purchased some Thoros because someone ranted and raved about them...well, they make my feet feel very sweaty teddy and make 'em stink to high heaven. I hate'em!”

“I don't think their all that bad. I have always gone with Thorlo's but I do have 2 pairs of Exped. Smartwoolies. I like them. I begining to think they keep their cushioniness longer than the Thorlos. One nice thing about them is that a liner is not always needed. Well for me that is. I do have a bad habit of just wearing all my socks as "house slippers" and that cause them to break down faster but hey it keeps the hardwood dusted and clean.”

“I own all kinds of socks in all kinds of wieghts and have just as many holes in my Thorlos as my Smartwools. I like the thinner Smartwools for summer hiking, also the Smartwool ski socks are da bomb! (official sock of the US sk team)”

“I got Thorlos because I heard so much about them, but I've had much more luck in my UltiMax.

“I have some UltiMax socks, too. Very comfortable, but a bit sweatier than the SmartWools, though it varies from one model to the next. My favorite UltiMax model is black and green, a midweight. Some socks certainly work better with certain shoes/boots I have. I have some WigWam merino wool socks on right now and they are good, but not as good as my SmartWools, at least with the Asolo scrambling shoes I'm wearing.

If I am going to carry extra anything when I hike, it's going to be extra clean, warm socks.”

“Exactly. I can't think of any pair of socks that perform identically in my various boots/shoe. All in all, though, the SmartWools have come closest. So it's not easy to just tell someone this particular brand of sock is the one they need. Different feet, different metabolisms, different shoes, different walking styles. Socks are just one part of it, but an important part. Pamper those tootsies at home and on the trail.”

“I use the smartwool socks to hike in and the thorlo socks inside wading boots when I'm fly fishing. Both seem to work pretty well. The thorlo's seem to be a bit too thick to fit comfortably in some pairs of hiking boots that I have.”

“I really love the smartwools. I have another brand I like too but can't remember the name. I have different thicknesses depending on use. I put 2 pair on under those rubber hunting boots and my feet are warm and dry! When I wear them with my hiking boots I don't get blisters and my feet are dry! Worth every cent.”

“In general, wool socks seem to rule. Some better than others. Porsche or Ferarri? You pays your money and lives with it. Cotton sucks, as we all know and so do non-wool socks.”

“The best sock or I should say socks are the Fox River VVS Wick Dry Sock. The socks are labled LEFT AND RIGHT. I hardley ever get those socks on the wrong feet. Have had my share of bad days with socks on the wrong feet, just like the rest of you. Its not fool proof, though, wish they had a label that read "This side out"”

I personally prefer the Thorlos because they hold their shape better and hug my feet. My feet sweat no matter what so I find liners make a big difference.”
