Forest Service does something good
Yesterday I read that the Forest service in CA has banned Anheuser-Busch's cowes from meadows in the Sierra Nevada to stop ecological damage. They canceled a permit to rent nearly 100,000 acres from the Owens Valley into the Golden Trout Wilderness, part of the Inyo Natl Forest 20 miles south of Mt. Whitney. Anyone know of this area and like to comment? Or would anyone just like to comment. I say, this one's for us!

No one stood in the way of BEER, radagast. They stood in the way of Anheuser-Busch.

Biiig difference.

RE: Forest Service does something good
Two thoughts come to mind..

a) One needs a good imagination to call Anheuser-Bush beer.

b) What is Anheuser-Bush doing owning cows?

Windy,

a) you got that right

b) i believe that it is the cows that produce their beer.

RE: Forest Service does something good
That beer always tasted like cow pee.

Kinda like how Corona tastes like forign pee.

Did you know that Mexicans don't drink Corona.

blasphemy!

beer is beer, dammit!

sure, some beers taste a hell of a lot better than others, but you folks obviously aren't worshippers of the holy brew!

Makes ya wonder...

Oh and good for the Forrest Service. Now if they would stop netting trout from high altitude lakes I might like them better.

RE: Forest Service does something good
Beer is not beer. Some beer is a glorious liquor of the gods sent to mortal man so that we may taste that of the dieties, while other excuses for the product are merely miserable excuses for carbonated dookie. Buttwiper SUCKS! Obviously someone at the USFS has decent taste in grog.

Also, Winddragon raises an excellent point: Why IS AB raising cattle anyway? Or do they just own the land and are leasing it to a rancher?

Rad's right, if you can't drink crummy lukewarm beer... yer a fair weather beer drinker. Anybody can drink quality chilled beer on a hot summer day.

A true beer devotee will gladly drink a 12 pack of skunked bud outdoors in the snow (if there is no better beer around).

RE: Forest Service does something good
The article (which I read at work so don't remember all of it) but I believe it said that AB bought a ranch back in the 80's for the water rights to use for their CA brewery if needed. It said that the value of the ranch would decrease if they couldn't use OURland for cattle. Also, said they paid a yearly pittance compared to the cost of the forest service having to monitor the area in addition to the damage caused by the cattle. Doesn't Ted Turner and some movie star types do the same thing in other parts of the west - use OUR land for their cattle at bargain prices?

RE: Forest Service does something good
yeah alot of those people do that for those reasons....I can't understand why they don't go with land easements instead...major tax breaks...but I guess it can bring property value down

RE: Forest Service does something good
I believe the Anheuser and Busch families are heavily invested in cattle. My sister used to work at a huge dude ranch near Sheridan, Wyoming owned by a cattle company, and a lot of the patrons were from the Anheuser/Busch families.

Ted Turner bought several thousand acres out right. He did it ala treehugger - so I understand.

The people of Budweiser remind you to know when to say moo.
