Artex's Great Gambling Adventure
I was at work yesterday, getting ready to come home, when a friend comes running up and asks "what are you doing this weekend?!"

I told him not much, and he asked if I wanted to take the 2 1/2 hour drive over to Connecticut to gamble at the Foxwood Casino (on an Indian res.). I said yes.

This will be my first time at a casino. I'm only going to drop $150, and no more. I'm going to assume I'll lose it all.

But..if I make enough profit, some new spring camping gear is in order!

I'll post my losings/winnings tonight.

Good luck, Artex. I've never understand the allure of gamling. That and ice fishing, I just don't get it. I can understand the desire for more gear tho. Win big! :o)

A fool and his money are soon departed.

Casino operators are among the most ruthless sharks in society.

The number one secret to sucessful gambling is to know when to quit. I saw a guy who made it big in Vegas and he said that te main reason people end up broke is that they just keep playing. They say they will play until they lose, but every time they lose they know that the next deal/pull will be different.

RE: Artex's Great Gambling Adventure
Welp, I ended up losing $60. Not to bad, and it was worth it for the experience. My impression of casinos are that they are fun, but too many people abuse them and take things to far. If one goes just every now and then, and you go in with a "losing" attitude" (in other words, I can lose my betting allowance and be totally okay with it), then great.

Weather was nice, a good day hike would have been more fun.

RE: Artex's Great Gambling Adventure
Interesting. I went to Foxwoods this weekend too! How cool is that? I went with my old brother. He ended up losing $400 (after a few trips to the ATM machine). I ended up winning $100 (I only brought $40, because I'm too scared to lost it, and went home with $140). I treated myself to 'Meets the Parents' DVD.

I could never be a serious gambler because as soon as I win a little bit of money I quit. I guess that's good, but you have to wonder if spending a whole day there is worth the $100. Still, I had fun.

I went to a casino for the first time a few months ago. It's called The 7 Cedars, and it is also an Indian Casino. Lookingglass won $45.00 minus his input of $17.00. I was so excited, I thought we should take the money and run.

Out here in WA, the casinos have good buffets set up. Seafood night is said to be great. Not all the buffets are top notch, so you have to do some research.

P.S. - My uncle-in-law won a job to put wood flooring down at Foxwoods many years ago. He lives in Madison, CT.

We tried Lady Luck down at the Horseshoe
there`s another world out there I never knew
that was my first time to visit the boats
seems there`s newbies and them old goats
those old goats sure enough came to play
and the newbies got taken and went away
eleven hours of hard drinking, we got tore up
we won, but we were beaten from the floor up
to be hurtin` that bad and not to be in a fight
stupid us, we went back for more the second night
my mind was a blank, the time lost, the money we won
I had a good enough time, but it wasn`t that much fun
I think that did me in, I won`t let that become a habbit
money`s not everything, I got tore up like a run-over rabbit

Whiskey flowed just like water, vodka, gin, rum and coke
people milling around betting in a room filled with smoke
seems women came and went, just like they were ships in the night
one woman wouldn`t much more than leave till another one would lite
it was sad stories they would tell and some of them a few
it was very easy to relate to their stories, seems I also knew
some talked about their losses and others about what they got
it was a boat filled with winners and losers and most a sorry lot
lucky at cards, unlucky at love, but somehow the same
there`s those that win and those that don`t in any game
they were wating on yet another hand, a bit better deal
few found what they were looking for, others never will
that was my first experance at that, before that I had never been
for love, or for money, you have to bet it all if you expect to win

Blank stares, blank faces, as if off in a trance
most hopeing and praying for just one more chance
to put their lives back together, if in only some small way
for the chance to win it all, they were even willing to pay
having lost it before that, or never having had it yet
they`re willing to lay it on the line in the form of a bet
I don`t know any of that for sure and that was just my best guess
it looked like they were willing to risk everything for happiness

You go, Big Foot! Nice gambling poems. :-)

I have a riverboat gambling facility, Isle of Capri (formerly the Miss Marquette) within 40 minutes of me on the Mississippi. Each year I go less. I've learned that hard lesson on how much to spend and when to leave.

One good thing, though. If you can go there and spend little or no money, the boat has one cruise daily, I believe. So you get to float on the Mississippi and see the cool bluffs. One hour down, turn around, and an hour back. FREE. During fall colors, it gets packed.
