I went out and bought some of that Glennlivet stuff. I gave up my next two week allowance in order to purchase it; you guys better be right about it. It's in the highball and ready to go (damn, the smell almost knocks me over). Down the hatch!” 5:58:25 PM 1/04/07 “Good gravy! How in the hell do you guys drink this stuff?” 6:09:15 PM 1/04/07 “DIBS ON THE REST OF THE BOTTLE!!! LOL! Try it on ice first and after a few beers. And sip it. I've seen ya drink Goldslagger (SP?). Scotch isn't that bad. last edited: 1/04/07 6:16:38 PM” 6:15:47 PM 1/04/07 “Ice? I've had the few beers and a fat ass organic meal before taking part in this venture. Dibs? Possibly. Let's try it over ice first.” 6:18:11 PM 1/04/07 “No no no! I wouldn't do that! You won't like it! Send it to me. I have a nice big yard where he can have room to run and he'll have other bottles to play with.” 6:21:08 PM 1/04/07 “lol! The ice made it a little better; however, I'll have the rest reserved for ya (save a little I'll take on the MLK FYAO in da UP trip next week). Oh my! Is that new hair on my chest?” 6:31:36 PM 1/04/07 “LMAO! You need a nice bottle of Bookers bourbon Q. Then you can send it to me minus 1 shot. I'll give it a good home too. LOL! I love good whisky.” 6:36:09 PM 1/04/07 “You guys don't hold a candle to Crazy Mike and his knowledge of fine spirits. He gave me one of the best drinks I've ever had on an Ocala hike.” 6:39:35 PM 1/04/07 “Well come on man! Don't hold out on us!!! What was it?” 6:44:49 PM 1/04/07 “Oh hell wait it was CM right? I don't know if I wanna know...” 6:45:39 PM 1/04/07 “Just keep sipping it Q. You'll come to like it. I never breath through my nose after I swallow either until I'm warmed up.” 6:46:52 PM 1/04/07 “How old is the Glenlivet and when can I have some?” 6:47:15 PM 1/04/07 ““Well come on man! Don't hold out on us!!! What was it?” meangreen 6:44:49 PM 1/04/07 I don't remember and for some reason my TarpTent was hard to find for about fifteen minutes that night, LOL.” 6:50:48 PM 1/04/07 “The 18 year old Glenlivet is what I call "praying scotch'. You take a drink, bow your head as if praying, look at the glass and say damn that's good scotch.". birch and I once drank the better part of a whole bottle and I think our necks were worn out. LOL!” 6:51:21 PM 1/04/07 “New years eve I had to go to a party the guys I work for went to and they were shooting Absinthe. Smelled like minty black licorice. I wish I wasn't working so I could have done a shot.” 6:53:25 PM 1/04/07 “"Just keep sipping it Q. You'll come to like it. I never breath through my nose after I swallow either until I'm warmed up." I gave it a chance. I just can't hang. One glass (with the ice) and I had to cut right back to Moosehead. "How old is the Glenlivet and when can I have some?" Sez 12 yrs on the bottle. You'll have to wrestle nigal for it. He's a very generous soul; I'm sure he'd share.” 6:55:39 PM 1/04/07 “You'll have to wrestle nigal for it. He's a very generous soul; I'm sure he'd share. Your far too generous with the accolades and the good character reference. I'd throw my mom under a bus for good scotch. LOL!” 6:57:49 PM 1/04/07 “Should have come to Masten, Nigal. I brought half a bottle of 21 yr old Glenlivet. After we drank half of it the first night, they asked me to put it away for the next night. I think it was Bobo that requested I go get it after maybe an hour had passed.” 6:57:56 PM 1/04/07 “"New years eve I had to go to a party the guys I work for went to and they were shooting Absinthe." I just saw a show on Absinthe two days ago on History Channel. I've heard all kinds of stories about the stuff. Back in the day, it was supposed to caused ya to see creepy stuff like a mild form of acid. That was from the impurities in the stuff, though. It's back on the market, obviously. I'm keeping my eye out for it.” 7:01:19 PM 1/04/07 “Stovie you're too funny. That the same tarp that smells like puke? LOL! btw I'm sending you a letter this week. I swear! LOL!” 7:02:36 PM 1/04/07 “From what I read at Wikipedia it doesn't really cause hallucinations but it does have a mind expanding effect like THC from the wormwood. I've heard the real expensive Czech stuff is rut gut nasty stuff but the French and New Orleans stuff is best. I've heard this is the cream of the crop Absinthe though. http://www.absintheonline.com/acatalog/Jade.html” 7:08:12 PM 1/04/07 “mg, LOL. No that tarp stunk from mildew. I've aired it out in the sun and the smell is gone right now. If I had known you were going to be at Deam, I would have brought it to you.” 7:08:30 PM 1/04/07 “Real Absinthe is still illegal to sell in the US.” 7:08:51 PM 1/04/07 “"Real Absinthe is still illegal to sell in the US." That's what they said on that show. While it meets all of the quality standards for the US, for some reason it can't be imported to the US. The recipe for the real stuff was just reversed engineered from old notes and processes from a few 100 years ago, per that show. If I come by it again, I'll let y'all know. It was something like "The History of Booze". It included stuff from the White Lighting days in the south.” 7:16:52 PM 1/04/07 “I might be interested in trying it. The odd thing is, possession and consumption isn't illegal. Or maybe that's not so odd, at least in the US?” 7:21:16 PM 1/04/07 “a friend brought some back from a trip to the caribbean...dear god alive that stuff was incredible... and i think the bottle had a hole in it, cuz it sure didn't last long.” 7:21:37 PM 1/04/07 “You can buy, posses and drink it here but you can't serve it. The stuff they were drinking was the real deal Hollyfield from France. The guy bought it down in Tennessee.” 7:35:21 AM 1/05/07 “Last night I tried Laphroaig 10 year old for the first time. For an Islay I can only compare with 18 yr old Lagavulin. And with that, I found the Laphroaig less intense, and not in a good way. It's nose and flavor were weaker and not nearly as enjoyable. But again, it might be an age thing. I might have to go to a whisky bar where I could compare the two. last edited: 2/28/07 1:09:13 PM” 1:08:57 PM 2/28/07 “I was given a bottle of Laphroaig Quarter Cask. All the way from the Motherland. It's done in the "traditional way". I give it a big fat thumbs up. I can't do it justice but they can: Laphroaig Quarter Cask takes its inspiration from the small casks often used for Scotch Whisky in the 19th century and frequently transported across the Glens by packhorse. As the industry grew, they fell into disuse – bigger and more cost effective barrels became the norm, for maturation and transportation. However as single malt lovers may know, the relationship between the barrels and the maturing spirit is critical. We noted that the small cask size gives up to 60% greater contact with the wood compared to some of the larger sizes used today, thus greatly intensifying the maturation process. It was decided to recreate some of the Quarter Casks and the flavours they produce. We transferred some still maturing Laphroaig from our larger style barrels into the Quarter Casks. There then followed a further periods of maturation in our original Dunnage Warehouse No1. For greater authenticity we simply barrier filtered the whisky – the method used in those far off days – and bottled at a higher alcoholic strength. http://www.laphroaig.com/whiskies/quarter_cask/index.asp?expanded=quarter_cask Jim Murray's Whisky Bible 2006 gives it a 95 out of 100.” 8:53:58 PM 3/19/07 “You lucky bass turd.” 6:45:02 AM 3/20/07 “Wall Street Journal: Scotch Terms Scotched By ERIC FELTEN June 16, 2007; Page P5 "Say goodbye to "vatted malt" whiskies. It is admittedly a small category of Scotch... ... The fracas got its start in 2003 when the giant drinks conglomerate Diageo started to run out of the venerable single malt Cardhu....Diageo tried to fill the orders by fudging what was in the bottle, combining surplus malt whiskies from other distilleries with the waning stocks from Cardhu. ...But what if you take several prime single malts and mix them together, without any of the grain whisky filler? Traditionally such whiskies have been called "vatted malts." Diageo might have put that term on the label of the reformulated Cardhu. But it chose another traditional phrase for such stuff, "pure malt," which not only seemed to blur the line between a single malt and a blend, but perhaps even suggested that the new Cardhu was better -- more "pure" -- than the old single-malt version...." So "Vatted Malt" will now be called "Blended Malt Scotch Whisky" which is not be confused with Blended Scotch Whiskey. Graded Vatted malts in the article: Very Good The Famous Grouse 18-year-old Blended Malt Scotch Whisky, $49.95 A deeply mellow, honeyed whisky, with complex, well-knit layers of malt, raisins and sherry-oak. Good/Very Good The Famous Grouse 10-year-old Blended Malt Scotch Whisky, $25.99 Well rounded and admirably structured. A bargain. Compass Box "Eleuthera," $52.99 A coherent, if astringent, combination of smoke and brine. Good Johnnie Walker Green Label, $51.99 Not bad, but disappointingly one-dimensional. JW Green was once promoted by the Co in question as "The Art of Pure Malt" but has changed all labels.” 11:23:07 AM 6/18/07 “Anyone see where Sammy Hagar sold off 80% of Cabo Wabo? He made $80 million off the deal. http://www.marinij.com/ci_5845793?source=most_emailed” 7:25:38 PM 6/18/07 “but why is the rum gone?” 9:40:24 PM 6/18/07 “Hey Nigal!!! Have you gotten any "Rare Breed" yet? I'm tellin ya man, Bourbon is where it's at!” 12:37:54 PM 6/19/07 “Is that anything like strange?” 12:38:52 PM 6/19/07 “Scotch, please!” 12:42:08 PM 6/19/07 “Rare Breed is Wild Turkey's premium bottling Rosey. Unfiltered, single barrel. It is usually around 108 proof, but I have heard of some being as high as 120. You can run your car off the stuff, but freeze it and it is sooooo good!” 12:47:01 PM 6/19/07 “Hmmmm, maybe just a sip.” 12:53:57 PM 6/19/07 “Not yet MeanG. I had a bottle of scotch and a bottle of Irish to take care of first. I wish you could buy it on the internet cause I found it for as cheap as $22 a 750ml bottle.” 1:33:54 PM 6/19/07 “HOLY SHEEP DIP NIGAL!!!! It's almost twice that in the stores here!” 4:48:51 PM 6/19/07 islay “if ya want to eat burning dirt drink islay scotch if ya want something good go to the highlands macallan is best in the world i pay 500 dollars i wouldnt give one penny for foolin or frog” 12:56:24 AM 7/09/07 “Is it good? Yes. Is it the best? No. Is it my favorite? No. I've had some fine Islys.” 4:37:17 AM 7/09/07 “Jesus, Nigals up early; hide your children.” 7:10:18 AM 7/09/07 “Worst Troll Ever!” 8:37:13 AM 7/09/07 i how i lied “i went to our local crappy liquor store today and stared at glenlivet 12 and laphroaig ten same price and bot the frog terrible stuff in summer time might get to like it in winter 2 choices for summer time single malt and i lost oh if someone here sold macallan.blended whiskys jw green label is 66 percent talisker famouse grouse has macallan in it i would not recomend dewars jw blue is very expensive” 2:38:49 AM 7/12/07 “Got a bottle of 15yr ols Macallan as a gift.
