My eyes did bug out when I opened it! I mean i knew it was probably Macallan. But I was thinking she bought me some 12yr old. Never had 18yr old!

“Macallan sells some older vintages, you can check them out at their website. In the DC area, you might even be able to find a shop that sells them.

“Did you know that you can actually go to Scottland and purchase a cask of whiskey from any of the vinters there. Last time I checked it was between 3,000 to 7,000 a cask. Of course you have to sit on it for the next 15 years or so (they keey it there for you in the right conditions). But still it sounds like a pretty cool investment.”

“I found a great bargain scotch. I�ve been looking for a less expensive scotch that I can enjoy more often. I found a single malt called McClelland�s. It doesn�t even say it�s aged on the bottle and it costs $20 a bottle. So I took a chance. Turns out it is owned by a company that has three distilleries throughout Scotland and they bottle their other scotches under the one McClelland name and they are all five year old scotches. The three they offer are Lowland (which is actually Auchentoshan), Highland (which is actually Glen Garioch), and Islay (which is actually Bowmore). I had some last weekend and it is a great scotch for the price. I had already had a couple big ales but I�d say it�s almost as good as the 12 year old Glenlevit. Almost though. It�s definitely going to be my every day choice.

“After reading more about Bowmor I found out that their Bowmor Legend single malt with no age printed on it is actually 8-10 years old and I found prices from $18-$24.”

“Smugglars has always been my favorite & inexpensive too. I got snookered on some scotch at my nephews wedding in Salem, Mass a few weeks ago. It was pretty decent stuff but never got around to asking what it was. Those Boston Irish Catholics CAN drink.

“So I went to my favorite liquor store and wanted to try some new scotch. I've been looking for the best bang for my buck scotches of late and found another great one. I got a bottle of 10 year old Speyburn single malt. WOW! A great scotch for a great price of $21. It's got more taste to it than the McClelland�s I tried last time. It�s a bit stronger too at 43% alcohol. Ya wouldn�t think the 3% would make that much of a difference but it does. I can drink quite a bit of the 40% without getting too sloppy.

So yesterday I was watching some movies and had a few Sam Adams in the fridge and thought, �It�s 5 o�clock somewhere.�, and had a few beers. Then I decided to try the new scotch and had three small glasses. It was wonderful but I have to remind myself that for every glass (about two fingers) of scotch I have is like drinking two or three beers. I guess what I�m trying to say is ended up somewhat inebriated. LOL!”

I think that sentiment will sit well with the Scotch. And the bottle of Ron Zacapa Centenario 23 Anos Rum...another gift from God.

I found McClellands this weekend at a Virginia ABC store. What a dangerous store! they had Macallan 25yr old but I didn't happen to have $520.00 in my pocket. But i did have the $22.00 for a 750 of McClelland's. I was quite pleased with it. As you said, it's nice to have a very affordable and drinkable single malt in the house.”
