The Sky is Falling “Okay, so they're gonna bring down Mir next week. So, the thing it being lowered in orbit. Will this make it easier to see on Earth? And what are the chances of seeing the thing flame across the sky on its way - hopefully - to the Pacific? Thanks in advance.” 7:54:08 PM 3/12/01 RE: The Sky is Falling “Somebody do tell more about this. Anyone?” 7:57:27 PM 3/12/01 RE: The Sky is Falling “Who remembers where they were when Skylab came down? Cullowee, NC after about two weeks in the mountains. Doing laundry and drying out.” 8:56:32 PM 3/12/01 RE: The Sky is Falling “Mir is coming down sometime between the 17th and 20th of this month at latitude 47 degrees south and a longitude of 140 degrees west...wherever the heck that is!” 9:16:53 PM 3/12/01 RE: The Sky is Falling “"so they're gonna bring down Mir " I don't think they really have a choice in the matter, its comming down if are commy friends like it or not.” 9:26:27 PM 3/12/01 RE: The Sky is Falling “So why don't they just blow the someb!tch up in space?” 11:04:50 PM 3/12/01 RE: The Sky is Falling “Space litter is really expensive! We already have tons of worthless crap floating in orbit. Its just a matter of time before something major happens to a satellite up there. Imagine the cost if a communication satellite or something else was taken out by a piece of trash. Its possible!!! Let it fall to the earth and burn up in atomosphere.” 11:14:56 PM 3/12/01 RE: The Sky is Falling “the sky's falling? I thought it was just rain.” 11:29:34 PM 3/12/01 RE: The Sky is Falling “Rain is space trucks?! o-8= I DO NOT like rain! The air blos it on my porch and gets everthing all wet and I hafta get in my STUPID LITTLE HOUS! that I do not like cuz my lookin is structed by the windy kertin. I can not see my food bole and see rats tryin to get my food out of my food bole neither.” 8:26:12 AM 3/13/01 RE: The Sky is Falling “This NASA site http://spaceflight.nasa.gov/index.html can tell you when and where to see various spacecraft. You just go to Space Shuttle, for example, and there is a list of cities around the world that tells what day, time, and direction to look. At one time it had Mir info. I'm not sure if it still does. I have seen the shuttle from my backyard and it's pretty neat. It doesn't look like much, but it's the novelty of it.” 9:26:03 AM 3/13/01 RE: The Sky is Falling “This site is a picture of Mir docked with the Shuttle taken from the backyard of some guy in Boston. His telescope is one readily availabe to amateurs. The picture quality isn't great, but you can tell what you're looking at. I thought it was pretty cool. http://www.meade.com/gallery/09a.html” 6:15:48 PM 3/13/01 RE: The Sky is Falling “Hey B'Rabbit "Space litter is really expensive! We already have tons of worthless crap floating in orbit. Its just a matter of time before something major happens to a satellite up there. Imagine the cost if a communication satellite or something else was taken out by a piece of trash. " Can you imagine the day when we have little signs in space (like the ones on the Highways) saying "This elliptical orbit adopted by the Lions Club of Alpha Centauri"” 6:52:32 PM 3/13/01 RE: The Sky is Falling “I believe its supposed to come down in the south pacific. And some pieces are supposed to be pretty frickin huge.” 7:28:06 PM 3/13/01 RE: The Sky is Falling “It's falling in Quazi, do you Yahoo?” 8:34:32 PM 3/13/01 RE: The Sky is Falling “May be a stupid question but can't they just send up a Space Shuddle to bring back some of the trash in that big cargo area?” 9:14:20 PM 3/13/01 RE: The Sky is Falling “Multi-billion dollar sanitation engineer.....I think I like the sound of that.” 10:24:54 PM 3/13/01 RE: The Sky is Falling “Dude, MIR is ancient as far as spacecraft goes. They have had fires onboard, collisions with supply ships, etc. The thing is beat to crap. No one can afford to keep it afloat so it's time they bring the ole bugger down! It's far better that they bring it down where they want to... than it come down in your backyard?” 10:41:20 PM 3/13/01 RE: The Sky is Falling “They should send up Timothy McVie (sp?), give him enough food and oxygen to sustain him...till the puppy falls to earth. Naaaaaaahhhhh! Death is too good for him. I think he's getting off easy with his death penalty, and think he should rot in jail till he dies naturally.” 10:45:53 PM 3/13/01 RE: The Sky is Falling “I just saw a show on what they called space "junk" . Well, there's a lot of it. It's all the space equipment we have been sending up. To sum up the show, the space junk can fall on you, and it hurts. sarabelle, maybe gojo can turn your house to the side so you can still look out, but the wind won't be coming toward you :{}” 11:22:33 PM 3/13/01 RE: The Sky is Falling “What's the chances of them crashing it into the ocean and hitting a boat? I don't know how big it is but you'd think they could take it apart and bring it down in a Shuddle.” 11:28:11 PM 3/13/01 RE: The Sky is Falling “I remember when Sky Lab came down. Everyone thought they were gonna' die! I understand Mir will put on quite a show as it enters our atmosphere. I will be car camping out in a remote corner of Death Valley for the next week. The night time sky out there in the desert ought to make for a great show!” 9:09:26 PM 3/14/01 RE: The Sky is Falling “I heard Mir is coming down in Quasi, an uninhabited area of the Australian outback. Yahooooooooooooooooooooo!” 9:04:59 PM 3/18/01 RE: The Sky is Falling “I read today that the final trajectory is supposed to be in an arc from Japan down through the tip of New Zealand. So, I would imagine that we won't get to see the thing glowing through the air. Bummer. But then again, it's the Russians we're talking about. They apparently don't have a great history with these types of things. So, cross your fingers.” 9:10:01 PM 3/18/01 RE: The Sky is Falling “BaSO4, it is only a matter of time before we start seeing of those space signs. Burn it!!!! I doubt the Northern Hemisphere will see much of a show, some may in the SW areas of North America but where I am, I doubted it and knowing OLD MAN WEATHER, I bet to see clouds. Last I heard it was destine to land in the S. Pacific Ocean, east of New Zealand. In a section of water like 300 something miles long by like 125 miles wide. They say most will burn up upon re-enter but the larger pieces(main body) will not. Apparently the Ruskies have taken out a huge million or billion dollar insurance policy in case it hits populated land.” 10:48:18 PM 3/18/01 RE: The Sky is Falling “I'm a-wear'n me hardhat.” 11:36:31 PM 3/18/01 RE: The Sky is Falling “Hi, I?m Johnny Knoxville and due to the cheap tactics of the Taco Bell corporation of placing a 40? X 40? target in the Pacific ocean and making the claim that if Mir hits the target every American will receive a free taco, we here at the Jackass Compound feel action must be taken. Taco Bell is doing nothing but raising the bar in the stupid stunt race and frankly, we will not be outdone! What I have proposed is that me and my team will infiltrate the area and tie me to the bull?s eye of the ?Taco Target? wearing nothing but a hockey mask and ballerina dress. If I get hit by Mir every single American will get a private show from Party Boy in your home. To insure that Taco Bell doesn?t foil these plans we will have Steve-O (clad in his big Johnson leopard skin thong) running interference by doing the ?My Fake Baby Is Drowning Gag?. If I do NOT get hit by Mier we will be holding a ?Taco Challenge? the next week where we will eat 50 tacos and see who can puke the most. We here at Jackass will NOT be outdone in the retarded stunt arena!” 9:08:21 AM 3/22/01
