Virus Alert
STOP
DO NOT OPEN "A Virtual Card for You"
or
"An Internet Flower for You"

PLEASE READ BELOW

A reliable source sent me this today:

A new virus has just been discovered that has
been classified by Microsoft and by McAfee as the
most destructive ever!

This virus was discovered yesterday afternoon by
McAfee and no vaccine has yet been developed.
This virus simply destroys Sector Zero from the hard
disk, where vital information for its functioning are
stored. This virus acts in the following manner:
It sends itself automatically to all contacts on
your list with the title "A Virtual Card for You". As
soon as the supposed virtual card is opened, the
computer freezes so that the user has to reboot. When the
ctrl+alt+del keys or the reset button are
pressed, the virus destroys Sector Zero, thus permanently
destroying the hard disk.

Yesterday in just a few hours this virus caused panic in New York,
according to news broadcast by CNN
This alert was received by an employee of
Microsoft itself.
So don't open any mails with subject "A Virtual
Card for You". As soon as you get the mail, delete
it.
Please pass on this mail to all your friends.
Forward this to everyone in your address book. I would
rather receive this 25 times than not at all.

Also:
Intel announced that a new and very destructive virus
was discovered recently. If you receive an email
called "An Internet Flower For You", do not open it.
Delete it right away!
This virus removes all dynamic link libraries
(.dll files) from your computer. Your computer will
not be able to boot up.
SEND THIS TO EVERYONE ON YOUR CONTACT LIST!

RE: Virus Alert
In all honisty I think this is BS because it says "send to every one" just like the other viruses that I have warnded you about that have been proven false. However, I'm just posting it so if you do get it in the mail, you don't open it.

RE: Virus Alert
Can any computer gurus tell me...generally, am I safe from those viruses that send mail to everyone in the address book if I keep my address book empty? May not apply to this particular virus but was just wondering. Thanks!

Dammit Tea it's spelled VIRSU get it right. LOL. Thanks for the update.

Utah, if you don't have a virus protection program on your program get one. download.com has several to choose from that you can use for free. Then you won't have to worry as much.

RE: Virus Alert
Most viruses are spread by people sending virus warnings. If you fear viruses get Sophos. It kills viruses and they update your machine against new viruses as needed.

I've received different warnings about viruses. It must be the new rage.

I did get a Norwegian Virus. Inorder to get it, you must go into your own computer and erase all of your files :{}

RE: Virus Alert
My IS guru-son from Denver is coming in this weekend and will install virus protection for me. He gave me strict instructions not to download anything...might be because I recently messed things up by deleting a program instead of uninstalling it. Anyway, thanks for all the info...I will soon have protection...yeah!

RE: Virus Alert
jpm, It is not that easy. I recieved a VBS file from a vendor that was doing VBS development for us. It had a virus that had emailed everyone in his address book.

My Sophos caught it, but he lost a few customers.

RE: Virus Alert
It's easy enough to think you wouldn't open something weird. However, a sometimes I'm just quickly going from one email to the next without going back to my original list...I've already opened up mail that I didn't mean to open...so human error happens....

RE: Virus Alert
I spent a couple of days last week reinstalling everything in my computer due to a virus. I was gonna try to extract the little bugger but it looked like it was easier just to reformat the hard drive and start all over. I've almost got everything back and did manage to save my work files. I gotta figure out how to get off all these foreign county spam mail list. Any clues?

I think my biggest problem is other people emailing me junk that feeds my email address into someone else's spam list.
