Is that 45 enough firepower to drop a charging mouse? Better get two, like Sam.

If he's shooting blanks he might want to see a urologist.

LISTEN UP PEOPLE

Lotta' you folks arguin' about whether to carry a sidearm or automatic weapons when yer' backpacking. Well I'm telling ya', it aint right to carry either one when yer' hikin'. I may be old fashioned, but it just aint right.

Me, I carry a double barrel sawed off shotgun. Now that's what ya' wanna' be packin'. Heck, you aint got no worries about varmints or critters or people, This here baby'll knock down a tree if one of them darn things jumps out at ya'.

Now that's what ya' wanna' be packin. 'Nough said.

Adios friend.

I always carry a .50 caliber machine gun with tripod, a half dozen grenades, and an 81 mm mortar. No telling what might show up that needs blasting!

Phased-plasma rifle in the forty watt range. The only thing to carry on the trail.

Actually, I prefer a M-1 Garand. You can cross a swollen river with it, shake the water out of the barrel and be assured it will fire.

Well Marvins Garden promised me a laser gun that he received from his travels with the aliens. It doesn't burn holes in things, it just freezes them into twisted clownish poses to forever host the sparrows.

Hmmm, maybe I should invest in a 105 mm howitzer just to be safe. Just in case Marvin comes through for Louella.

Hats off to ya Geo!

...And me with my wimpy little sawed off two barrels. I gotta get me some real fire power too. And here I was thinkin' mahseff to be a real man. Well, I will be soon as I can get myself some grenade launchers.

A hiker can't be too prepared I always say. Never can tell when a mouse might charge you or a chipmunk sneak up on your tent! They don't call it wilderness for nothing!

I'm gonna start using the chipmunk test before I add a gun to my gear collection. I'll blast a chipmunk, and ifn I find a piece of it... then I've got to get more fire power.

Ya gotta see the little blighters first. They are stealthy little things. Wouldn't trust 'em a bit I sez! Blow 'em to he11 with hand grenades!

Claymores also work well against tiny, stealthy foes, but they are heavier and that is always a consideration for ultralight packing.

Naw, you might need that big stuff. No telling when a herd of rhinoscersauces might try t' trample ya! Or hippapotanooses, ever think of that? Get caught with just a little .22 when one of those monsters stomps along and poof, you're squooshed!

Well now, if'n ya rolls up in an M1A1 Abrahms tank, it'll not only hold all yer gear, it'll blast the smithereens outta anything in yer way. You'll never git tahrd, cuz y'ain't walkin' and ya could even blast some new trails, like through mountains and stuff. Lemme see one'a them thar rhinoscersnokussus try ta stop this baby!

Scorched earth, the only policy that works! Take no prisoners, leave nothing standing. Why look what a crazed rabbit almost did to Jiminy Carter! Cudda capsized his canoe. Bet he wished he had a gun on the deck of that canoe!

Lesser minded folk are far too lenient and naively trusting when it comes to the varmits that infest our wild lands.

Guns and trees!!!! I've gone cedar huntin a couple times. Dem trees grow like dem weeds out on the farm. Wez like to site our guns in by aimin fur the base. Wez just sit back on the nuther ridge with ours guns and just blast away at dem por unsuspecting tress. Eventually dem fall over thens wez use dem fur blinds come huntin season.

in answer to the question
Geez people
YES. i suggest u chek w/local ranger types first. many reserves allow hunting. but really what is there to worry about. most have a much better chance of shooting another person. but i do usually carry a 9mm w/snake-shot (birdshot)first 7 are shot rest are solids.
thing is last wkend i walked w/in 10" of a rattler, gun jammed, i didn't think i could jump away, so i killed it w/a stick (they DO taste like chicken) i'm going to invest in a v-end walk stick w/some kinda shogun sword built in it the handle. most parks w/bears and wolves don't allow guns anyway. hope i don't meet any ninja bears.
guns are overated.and HEAVY
