Beer Vendor Struck by Parachutist in Florida

March 12, 2001 A beer vendor was accidentally struck by a skydiver during the women's coleslaw-wrestling event at Florida's annual Bike Week last Wednesday, The Associated Press reported today.

Thirty-seven-year-old Sherri Lee was hospitalized in serious condition after being struck by Clarence Swimm, 56, as she was carrying a tray of beer through the arena. Swimm landed on top of Lee, knocking the beer to the ground and causing a laceration to her chin and bruises to the rest of her body. Lee was released form the hospital Sunday afternoon.

Swimm told The AP that the accident was his fault.

The ladies' coleslaw wrestling event is one of the biggest attractions during Bike Week, an annual celebration of motorcycles and leather. The 15-foot-long, three-feet-deep nosh-pit is filled with 2,000 pounds of coleslaw made from green cabbage, mayonnaise and Wesson oil. Over 25,000 bikers and fans turned out for Bike Week, which was held on ten acres of land near Daytona, Florida. Lee was among several at the festival that were injured.”
