widespread panic
this is a slightly different thread than my music one. do any widespread fans out there think the band has sold out in the last few years?

Dave Schools will be playing bass for Gov't Mule an upcoming run of 10 shows. Chuck Leavell (Rolling Stones, among many) will be on the keys, also.

Great band! I'm not sure about selling out though. Hell if they did, it doesn't seem to have done them much good.

RE: widespread panic
pisgah - what exactly do you mean by selling out? I know they didn't allow taping at one of their shows recently. Is that what you are referring to?

RE: widespread panic
LOL Rad!

But it has been amazing to see how many people who were "never going to sell out" ended up in despair later... when they realized how hard it was to find a buyer!

Some of them had to sell out at bargain rates.

RE: widespread panic
Aren't they that progressive "hippy wannabe band" that has taken over the Greatful Dead followers in some regards. Kinda like Phish did in away. I've heard a few tracks but not enough to venture out and buy my own. I have a friend that always talks about these Red Rocks concerts and what a blast they are.

Are they walking the same line as Pearl Jam when it comes to promotion and sales of related items or have they ventured more into the mainstream?

I love Rad(figuratively), he says stuff I'm afraid to say in public.

I've seen WSP live a few times, the first time in a neighborhood bar/club. I'm afraid I haven't kept up with them lately. Skilled artist to be sure. IMHO, they are easily better than Phish. I hooked onto Ekoostik Hooka as my jam-band of choice. Does WSP even tour the midwest any more?

RE: widespread panic
What a coincidence. I just downloaded "Coconut" yesterday.

But overall, I'm not very familiar with them. What else should I grab while Napster is still up and running?

RE: widespread panic
walkincrow - WSP played in Carbondale, IL about 3 months ago. That's pretty Midwest.

tommy - download Space Wrangler, Chilly Water, Travelin' Light, Porch Song, Diner, Wondering, Barstools & Dreamers, Climb to Safety, The Walker, Dyin' Man, All Time Low.

Let me know when you are going to be on Napster. my user name is indio70, check out my library. I have a lot of live recordings. Like the New Orleans 10-28-2000 show.

RE: widespread panic
I wasn't tryin to put down WSP, just playing with idea of people selling out when there aren't any takers.

If I offended anyone who felt I was being cynical or disrespectful with my remarks on this thread, then this really is my lucky day (definitely among my top seven this week, maybe even #2).

RE: widespread panic
While going to see the Moe NYE show in Atlantic City, NJ, we got snowed off the PA highway in the Poconos the night before (remember the HUGE snowstorm?). We got in the hotel room just as an Austin City Limits concert having WSP was starting. Only seen them once...last summer...for free...at an outdoor stage in front of a barn...prolly 200-300 people were there...got so close I could see the THC in their bloodshot eyes. I'd go see them again!

RE: widespread panic
m-nutz, thanks for the offer. I tend to do it late at night, as I load them onto my PC with the dial-up, but maybe a good idea is to put them on the Mac with the DSL and email them to myself later. I'll see if you're on tonight.

The latest stock market figures.
This is a good time to never have had enough money to invest in stocks or .coms.
